The costs associated with equipping a firefighter are frequently underappreciated. In 2024, the expense of providing a firefighter with the essential personal protective equipment can exceed $11,000. This estimate solely accounts for the attire required to combat a structural fire and excludes ancillary expenditures like tools, supplementary gear, training, or transit to the scene of the incident. In contrast to other departments that receive community funding, our department does not benefit from borough contributions. Instead, we depend on fundraising events and grants to secure the essential funds needed for our operations.
