What does Palomino PT’s “Manual Approach” look like?
1️⃣ Evaluation
The first appointment: An hour long meeting (just you and I) consisting of various tests and measures along with subjective information collection (where you get to tell me everything that you’re experiencing in addition to my various questions for you!). This first appointment is paramount as getting an accurate diagnosis will give us the best chance for success. Once evaluated and we (again just you and I) establish a plan for progression towards your goals, we focus on treatment - the things that are difficult to do solo. Depending on the complexity of your specific case and time permitting, treatment may be possible on this first appointment.
2️⃣ Dry Needling
In many cases (BUT NOT ALWAYS) I will begin our appointment with dry needling techniques. If the patient has any phobia or wishes to decline - there is absolutely no problem. Like all techniques we use in our practice - they are merely tools. We believe it’s our application of them that you should value! In dry needlings place, other techniques such as Cupping or IASTM may be used.
3️⃣ Manual Therapy
If we’ve decided dry needling (or any other modality) was right for you, we will typically follow it up with what we refer to as “manual therapy”. We umbrella term this “manual” because it consists of dozens of different techniques: hands-on soft tissue mobilization, functional mobilization, joint mobilizations, passive/active-type stretching, and more!
4️⃣ Load It
As we approach the final 10-15mins of the appointment, we will typically do some loading of the tissue. This could mean some specific manual resistive exercises, squat/gait re-education, or more involved activities geared toward your goals! I don’t typically spend much time in this realm unless again it specifically is towards your goals.
Instead I take pride in empowering my patients to learn as much about pain reduction, fitness, exercise, mobility, etc from me and to move forward incorporating new strategies in their lives to improve overall quality, health, & wellness. This = more available time for me to treat you! More in comments!!!
