🥕🍇 Voices for Food Access: Call for Submissions Opens Soon! 🍅 🥦

Starting January 14, our annual Voices art contest officially begins! Prepare to submit your own artwork to help build a digital gallery that reflects the resilience, creativity, and care behind food access in Northern Michigan. From family recipes and backyard gardens to cultural traditions and creative ways of stretching ingredients or lending a helping hand—your story matters.

The first 75 submissions will receive a $50 gift card for fruits and vegetables. Plus, for our three winners, Munson will donate $1,000 each to a local food pantry of their choice.

Taylor Moore, Director of Food Rescue at Goodwill Northern Michigan describes what Food Access means to him: “To me food access means having access to enough money to ensure that the cost of transportation, healthcare, child or eldercare, housing, and utilities doesn't affect your ability to buy healthy nutritious food at the grocery store.”

We are thrilled to announce that Sierra Wright, RN, has been honored as Manistee Hospital’s 2025 DAISY Award recipient! A special ceremony was recently held in the Emergency Department, where Sierra was recognized for her extraordinary compassion and dedication to patient care.

Her nomination story reflects the very heart of nursing:

“I was so thankful that she was there that night. She went above and beyond her duty—not only for my care but for my wellbeing and mental health. We’re celebrating Alex Kitzman, ICU Nursing Assistant, as Munson Healthcare Cadillac Hospital’s 2025 MAPLE Award winner!

The MAPLE Award honors exceptional non‑RN team members who go above and beyond to Make All Patients’ Lives Excellent — and Alex does just that.

Double the DAISY at Munson Cadillac Hospital!

Recently we had twice the reason to celebrate — two incredible nurses were honored with DAISY Awards!

Kelly VanDrie, RN, was celebrated for her kindness and patience while supporting a special needs patient through a complex diagnosis. A provider noted, “Kelly was endlessly kind, patient and helpful… ensuring there were no gaps in understanding.”

Stan Swartz, RN, was recognized for his calm leadership and compassionate care during pediatric trauma. A colleague shared, “Stan’s energy and promptness made me feel reassurance as a mother… the patient needed exactly what Stan did.”

Downtown Manistee sparkled with holiday magic last weekend at the Manistee Sleighbell Cookie Crawl during the city's annual Victorian Sleighbell Parade & Old Christmas Weekend — and Munson Healthcare staff joined the fun!

Munson Healthcare Hospice invites you to this year’s Winter Solstice Gatherings. These special candlelight ceremonies help light the way to hope and healing by acknowledging the loss and heartache you may be feeling this time of year.

Events will take place on Monday, Dec. 15 at 5:30 pm at The Filling Station Microbrewery in Traverse City and Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 5 pm at the Cadillac Senior Center. All are welcome to join.

We are a nationally recognized 442-bed hospital in Traverse City, Michigan. We are the largest hospital owned by Munson Healthcare, which includes nine owned and affiliated hospitals serving patients close to home across northern Michigan. We serve as a regional referral hospital for 24 counties in northern Michigan and have: • The only Level II Trauma Center north of Grand Rapids • The only Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in northern Michigan • One of two open heart surgery programs in northern Michigan We are proud to have been named a 100 Top Hospital 14 times by Thomson Reuters, one of only three in the nation recognized so often for superior quality and operational performance. We have also been repeatedly named a 100 Top Cardiovascular Hospital because of our outstanding heart program and are among only 8 percent of hospitals awarded Magnet Recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for nursing excellence.
