Don Arthur Randall

Don Arthur Randall, 95, passed away peacefully at his apartment at Boardman Glens on Friday, March 27, with his loving family at his side.

Don was born April 7, 1930, on the family farm near Mesick, Michigan, the fifth of eight children to Leon A. and E. Glee (Weaver) Randall. With his paternal grandmother in the home and maternal grandparents close by, Don recalled those early years warmly. Hunting and fishing with his brothers and boyhood friends, along the nearby Fletcher Creek and Manistee River, as well as farm chores and time spent in the sugar maple grove, provided a lifetime of pleasurable memories. Don attended Brookside and Mesick Consolidated Schools.

He participated in high school basketball, track, tennis, and theatre, and served as class president for five years. In the fall of his sophomore year, with Don behind the wheel of his 1937 Ford, a carload of students heading to a football game included classmate Elsie Mannor. They became sweethearts throughout their high school years. In 1949, following the passing of his father, Don took on the responsibilities of the farm while continuing his education, graduating in May 1950.

He then joined his brother Leon in Grand Rapids and worked as an inspector at American Seating Company. In February 1951, Don was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was assigned to the 31st Dixie Division at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. In January 1952, he was sent to Korea, where he served with the 92nd Armored Field Artillery before transferring to 9th Corps Headquarters, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was honorably discharged on January 31, 1953. Don was the fifth of six members of his family to serve in the military.

While on a 30-day leave en route to Korea, Don and Elsie were married on December 28, 1951, at her mother’s home in Harrietta, Michigan. Thus began a loving and devoted union that would span 74 years. Upon returning home in February 1953, Don became employed in Cadillac with Chris-Craft Corporation, working on the 17-foot Runabout. During seasonal layoffs, he worked at various times as a contractor, plumber, electrician, and mason, gaining many skills that he later used in building and maintaining his homes, his woods, and the island he and Elsie would own for 30 years.

He enjoyed machinery, tools, and automobiles, as well as the challenge of repairing equipment or accurately felling a tree. During their years in Cadillac, Don became a member of the First United Methodist Church and its choir. Their daughter, Lisa Elene, was born in Cadillac in 1957.

In 1960, the family moved to Flint, Michigan, where Don attended the Flint Institute of Barbering. He completed his studies and took his state board examinations in Detroit on May 1, 1961; son Scott was born earlier that same morning. Don then moved the family to Central Lake, Michigan, for a summer apprenticeship. In August, he accepted a position at Pat Karns Barbershop on West Front Street in Traverse City, where he barbered for the next 27 years, later acquiring ownership after Pat’s passing.

Don thoroughly enjoyed his profession, barbering in downtown Traverse City until 2013. Over 52 years, he experienced many highlights, serving clients from all walks of life. For several years, he also cut hair monthly at a local nursing home and never refused a request from someone who was hospitalized or homebound. He had a special way with handicapped or apprehensive children. Don cut the hair of three and four generations of several families. He also held a license in the State of Arizona and barbered there for twelve winters.

Don and Elsie became members of Traverse City Central United Methodist Church in November 1961, where he remained active until his death. He served for over 40 years as an usher, supported all choir functions, and assisted with church school classes for young children in earlier years. For a period of summers, Don and Elsie served as chairpersons for Central’s “Church in the Park.” For several years, Don also served as a Big Brother. During his children’s early school years, he was active in the PTA and TC Music Boosters. Later, he became an active member of the Korean Veterans Association and Cherryland Post 2780 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served on the honor guard for many years, participating in hundreds of services.

Surviving Don are his wife, Elsie; his children and their spouses, Lisa and John Simpson of Beaver Island, Michigan, and Scott and Pam (Prebble) Randall of Flagstaff, Arizona; and his granddaughter, Erica Randall Parlaman, her husband Ian Parlaman, and their daughter, Eliza “Liz” Parlaman of Flagstaff. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceding Don in death were all of his siblings and their spouses: Lorraine and William Sublett; Richard Randall (WWII); Rev. Paul and Ella Randall; Leon Jr.; Betty Randall; Delores Randall; Elaine and Douglas Burton; and Ronald Randall. Memorial contributions in remembrance of Don may be directed to Central United Methodist Church, 222 Cass Street, Traverse City, MI 49684, for its mission projects, or to Big Brothers Big Sisters TC.

The memorial service for Don will be held at Central United Methodist Church, 222 Cass Street, Traverse City, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, with Rev. Linda Stephan presiding. The family will receive visitors in the Gathering Place beginning at 1:00 p.m., Full Military Honors for Don will take place following the service, and a luncheon will be served following the honors.

Jeffrey William Minervini

Jeffrey William Minervini, age 61, of Traverse City, Michigan, made his final Irish goodbye on May 3, 2026. He was given a 12-month cancer prognosis, and rather than seeking treatment that might extend his life a few months, he spent his last year focused on quality time and checking items off an extensive bucket list.

That time included special dinners with family, landscaping his yard, gardening and fixing up his home, resale shopping, playing pinball with his friends and siblings, entertaining on his patio, and traveling downstate for reunions with friends, including a most memorable day with his favorite people at a Detroit Tigers baseball game.

Jeff was born in Detroit eleven months after his brother Raymond on Christmas Day, 1964. He lived a life marked by independence, resourcefulness, creativity, empathy, joy and resilience.

As a child in East Detroit, Jeff and his siblings spent hours with friends riding around on bikes, climbing trees, or playing kickball. With a treehouse, clubhouse, field out back, and welcoming parents, the Minervini home on Toepfer Street was the neighborhood gathering spot. And the number of friends hanging out at “Toepfer House” grew over the years—with Jeff usually serving as the master of ceremonies. Those friendships flourished at East Detroit High School (Class of 1983) and endured throughout his entire life.

Jeff had a very close relationship with his grandmother, Adeena, and he loved spending time garage saling with her. Later, after migrating to Traverse City with the rest of the family, he opened the Kash Cow Resale Shoppe off Woodmere Avenue, where she was his best (volunteer) employee.

Jeff then spent nearly twenty years working for his dad's construction company, building restaurants throughout the country before focusing on several Traverse City landmark restoration projects, including the Old Town Playhouse, the Perry Hannah House, Carnegie Library, and The Village at Grand Traverse Commons. He was known for his artful attention to detail.

Always thinking of others, Jeff would often show up with the perfect thing you didn't know you needed, like to-go containers for all the Thanksgiving leftovers, or sunshades to put up at the beach cookout, or colored lights and a strobe for an exchange student's birthday party. He always came through with the finishing touch.

Jeff loved living downtown and enjoyed all things Traverse City— especially the Cherry Festival, 4th of July Fireworks, UpNorth Pride, Cherry T Ball Drop, and the Light Parade. His favorite hangouts included the Coin Slot, Dairy Lodge, Brady's Bar, U&I, Mode's Bum Steer and Union Street Station in the old days.

Jeff is survived by his parents Ray (Marsha) Minervini and Peggy Holland, his siblings, Raymond (Christie) Minervini, Tony (Melinda) Lombardi, Laura (Barry) O'Brien, and Jason Lombardi. He also left behind six nieces and nephews: Camellia Minervini, Robert O'Brien, Pierce “Onyx” O'Brien, Ella “Cam” Lombardi, Leo Lombardi, and Audrey Lombardi.

He was preceded in death by his dear friend Lynn Guba.

A memorial service will be held at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 3:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Thomas Judd Care Center in Traverse City, or, in Jeff’s spirit, consider adopting a cat.

Jeff's loved ones extend their heartfelt gratitude to the heroes at Munson Hospice House, and to all of the friends and colleagues who extended support during this difficult time.

Jeff will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his warm smile, irreverent sense of humor, and the way he connected with so many people. Please join us in sharing memories of the life he built around family, friends, and the community he loved.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and memories with Jeff’s family at his tribute page at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com.

David George Knowles

David George Knowles, 73, passed away on May 2, 2026, at his home in Traverse City, Michigan, surrounded by family.

David was born on September 9, 1952, in Traverse City to Harry “Porter” Knowles and Margaret Louise Knowles. Though Traverse City was where his story began, it was far from the only place he called home. He served in the United States Navy and later worked as a civilian contractor, traveling the world and building a life full of stories, friendships, and experiences that stretched far beyond any one place.

He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and found joy in the simple things. Whether he was fishing, smoking a cigar, or playing a round of bingo with his favorite coral dauber in hand, David was content. Trucks were one of his favorite hobbies, especially his two 1939 Chevy trucks, which he poured time and effort into and drove whenever he had the chance. He had a story for every moment and a willingness to share it, leaving an impression on everyone lucky enough to listen. His travels brought him friends across the globe, too many to name, but each one meaningful.

David is survived by his children, Amy (Jerry) Sattory of Muskegon, Michigan, and Roger, Porter, and Luke Knowles of Minnesota; his grandchildren, Paige (Hank) Steffes of Zeeland, Michigan, and Rae Sattory of Muskegon, Michigan; his siblings, Margaret (Sue) Chapman of Charlevoix, Michigan, and Jon Knowles of Traverse City, Michigan; and his niece, Blaire (Brad) Noren of Muskegon, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry “Porter” Knowles and Margaret Louise Knowles, and his nephew, Spencer Knowles.

He was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

A graveside service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Heartland Hospice for their compassion and care in his final days.

Evelyn Regina Shelagowski

Evelyn Regina (Jeske) Shelagowski passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus, with a smile on her angelic face and family by her side, on April 27, 2026, at Autumn House in Williamsburg, MI.

Evelyn was born in Kawkawlin, MI on February 1st, 1926, to the late Alex and Agnes (Staszak) Jeske. Evelyn married her loving Gene Shelagowski at St. Anne’s Church in Linwood on November 9, 1946. Gene preceded her in death on July 9, 1999.

Evelyn was a member of the D of I at St Anne’s church in Linwood.

She loved art! She started at the age of 9 and continued up until March 2026 and was amazing. She also loved music and played the accordion and harmonica. She loved to cook and bake and took great pride in it. Her homemade breads and pierogis were second to none!

She enjoyed a game or two of cribbage almost daily and beat everyone! Polka music or Holy music were always playing in the background. She had a strong faith in God and prayed the rosary daily. She loved her grandchildren, and they were a joy to her.

Her greatest times of joy were spending time with “my Gene” in the studio where she created the most gorgeous paintings and Gene did all the framing and matting. Her paintings are adorning homes all over the world. She traveled to the Tetons and Portland OR and NC for visits.

After the death of her loving Gene, she moved to Traverse City to be near her daughter and son. She was the very first resident at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons where Ray Minervini appointed her the Ambassador! Over the years she made many friends, walking the grounds daily and enjoying yoga. It truly was a village, they all loved her and she adored and loved them; they kept watch over her for 22 years. She was asked to do a video on the beautiful grounds called Whole Again.

The beauty in Mom reflected in her art and music and the way she treated everyone with unconditional love and respect. Her strong faith in God carried her through her entire beautiful life. She told everyone I’m 100 + 3 months!

When she was invited to perform in a talent show with her harmonica, staff asked her if she had a good time? Mom said it was the most fun I’ve had in 100 years! She never missed a beat. She was as bright as sunshine and always had a song in her heart.

Evelyn is survived by her children; Scott (Denise) Shelagowski, Jane (Wayne) Broderick, Ann Clark, and Neal (Deb) Shelagowski; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Lori, Scott, Brett, Bethany, Kelly, Tiffany, Evan and Gena; several great grandchildren, and special friends, Bobbi and Sue.

She was predeceased by her grandson, Josh Clark; sisters, Mary and Dorothy; brothers, Stanley, Chet, Pete, Dubbie, and Ben.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the awesome Autumn House in Williamsburg where she was cared for by compassionate and loving staff. Gratitude also to Bayside Hospice Care, NP Kitty and Trish, Chaplain Dan, and NP Bill and N Palliative Care, NP Nadia, as well as Christ the King Church.

A visitation will be held from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St. Traverse City, MI. William McCreery Davison

William "Will" McCreery Davison, age 85, passed away on April 21, 2026, surrounded by family. Will was born on March 9, 1941, in Flint, Michigan, to Matthew Davison Jr. and Margaret (Non) Cumings Davison. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve before going on to build a distinguished career as a real estate attorney, though anyone who knew Will would tell you that work was never first. What people remember is Will in the bleachers, on the side of the ski hill at Hickory Hills, or in the audience. He showed up every time for the people he loved, and he made you laugh while he was there.

He was a man of genuine wit, humility, and kindness, with a smile that rarely left his face. He had a gift for putting new people at ease, always turning the conversation toward them rather than himself. He'd stop traffic to help a turtle cross the road—and we're only half kidding. Even in his final months in memory care, the aides who cared for him noticed it too: glimpses of the warmth and humor that defined him.

His dedication ran deep in his community too. Among his pro bono legal work was helping secure easements for the VASA trail, a gift to Northern Michigan that will outlast all of us.

Will married Diane on July 23, 1968, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and travel while raising their daughters, Leslie and Laurie.

He was a natural teacher, patient and hands-on. He taught his daughters and friends to water ski, swim, tie a bowline, gybe a Sunfish, and hot-wax a toboggan. Hesitation was always met with his signature encouragement: “Easy mon-EY!” as many who grew up at Pinewood Point remember.

For much of his life, summers meant the family cottage, a place that anchored generations of memories: windsurfing on Lake Michigan, golfing at White Lake, and music on the porch. Long Lake and Northern Michigan was a year-round love: cross-country skiing the Vasa or the Birkebeiner, biking and running country roads, and sailing—especially the Race to Mackinac.

In later years, he and Diane found contentment at their cabin. Weekends were spent setting up the camera near the creek in hopes of spotting a bear or bobcat, building brush piles for critters, planting native wildflowers, filling bird feeders, watering (lots of it), and mowing with the John Deere. A black and white shih tzu was always nearby, cared for with the same attentiveness he brought to raising his daughters.

Music was a constant in his life, from playing piano with his mother as a boy to hospice music therapy at the very end. He would tap his foot, drift off, and wake again, clearly responsive to the music. Will loved bluegrass and gospel and played guitar, banjo, and dobro. Playing on his own and with friends and family (Laurie on piano, Leslie on banjo, and Dal on the guitar), often from the Old Town Playhouse songbook, brought him immense joy. He had a gift for drawing others in, teaching a few chords (G7) on the dobro so they could join in, often with "Amazing Grace."

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Matthew Davison III, James, and Charlie; and his sister, Mary Anne Kettler. He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane; his daughters, Leslie (Michael Dixon; bonus grandchildren Natalie and Eric) and Laurie; nieces and nephews; and his cousins with whom he shared a lifelong bond.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
