An important part of understanding anxiety can come from reflecting on how anxious thoughts and feelings get passed down and absorbed within a family.

Sometimes, people discover that what they experience as anxiety is actually a set of learned patterns of behaving, relating, and coping with emotions that has been passed down between generations. A big aha! moment for some is realizing that in some families, LOVE is so deeply entwined with WORRY that they become the same feeling.

If you struggle with anxiety, especially for your kids, partners, or loved ones, reflecting on the questions below can be very insightful. 🩵

I was reflecting with my sister on all the things that have happened in the five years since Covid. There was a breaking open during that time, a pause button in a flood that for many raged and persisted long after lockdown ended.

Most of us have moved on—it’s been necessary for humanity to do that. But alongside the moving on, in our in-between spaces, the reality is that there was just so much loss. People, obviously. But also normalcy. The ability to say goodbye. Breakups and endings accelerated by the squeeze of no escape. For some, a future of decent health. Educations. Rites of passage. Collectively, the belief that what we experienced only happens in movies and history books. Not to mention all the ripple effects big and small we can’t yet understand.

All to say—that this week, I’m honoring the scars both seen and unseen left by the pandemic, and want to say with certainty: that it makes perfect sense if you’re still healing. ❤️‍🩹
