Lia graduated from Oakland University with a bachelor's in Exercise Science in 2013. While at Oakland University she competed for the NCAA Division I Women’s Cross Country and Track teams. She has passion for athletics and running and loves to incorporate her foundations as an athlete into her clinical practice. Lia continued to attend Oakland University in the Physical Therapy program where she received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2016. After she graduated PT school, Lia worked full time in an outpatient orthopedic clinic while also working at Henry Ford Hospital in Inpatient Rehab on weekends with the goal of gaining as much patient care experience as she possibly could. Lia has experience treating many conditions in the realm of orthopedics, chronic pain, vestibular, neurologic, & geriatrics. She gradually grew her caseload with pelvic floor dysfunction soon after she graduated and quickly gained more interest in this specific patient population. Lia has completed several certifications in pelvic floor rehab for women, men and children through the APTA Section on Pelvic Health and Herman & Wallace programs. She has also completed a 4-week pelvic floor physical therapy mentorship program which has given her a foundation for her treatment methods. Lia currently lives in Novi, MI with her husband, Mario, and their two husky dogs, Casper & Remy. She is the Assistant Coach for Novi Women's Cross Country and Track teams. She continues her passion of running post collegiate by competing in ½ marathons and marathons. Lia’s goal is to return to the Boston Marathon after her first appearance in 2016.

🌙 January 20th, 2025

20 days in to 2025…

With resolutions, goals, & plans falling off, or maybe for you still going strong.

But If you’re like me you’ve had some important goals you set, plans made for the new year and started on track but to find out life just gets in the way sometimes.

Other things pop up, the unexpected day happens and it doesn’t go as planned. My plan to attend more yoga & Pilates classes, crochet more, see friends more, plan date night more, post pelvic floor content on social media more, yet take a break from work more, it’s never what you plan.

Well 20 days in to the new year my realization of life is it is never what you plan. Whether January or July life goes on and maybe it isn’t about staying on course, but when you get off course, having the motivation to get back on and restart where you left off.

So last week I blocked my work schedule for tomorrow to take a yoga class — Knowing other stuff can wait.
Happy 2025!! ✨

And If you’re free at 9am come join me for a vinyasa flow!

Did you guess any of these differences??…

1️⃣ Gaze is up, ribcage is angled upwards, and striking foot is out too far in front of the body landing with more of a heel strike.

2️⃣ Gaze is more downward, ribcage is level and striking foot is more underneath the body landing with a midfoot strike.

All these positions can contribute to or also be a result of the other. Figuring out your individual driving movement pattern & dysfunction is important when making corrections.

Sooo… then which one is better for the Pelvic floor?!

#️⃣2️⃣‼️

Ribcage and pelvis are better aligned to improve the functional position of the pelvic floor and the midfoot strike can help reduce impact up through the hip—therefore the pelvic floor 🙌

Pelvic Organ Prolapse 💥
POP is when organs of the pelvis (bladder, uterus, and/or re**um) descend or displace downward or outward.

Common symptoms included pelvic pressure, feeling like something is “falling out”, urinary frequency/ leakage, and difficulty with completely emptying bladder and/or bowels.

Pelvic PT can help! Causes & symptoms can vary for each individual so the treatment might look a little different between patients. And kegels are not the answer!

Research shows that PT can reduce prolapse by a full grade. And even if you do have surgery it is still important to seek PT to address the underlying causes and habits so the symptoms don’t return!

Could those UTI symptoms actually be Pelvic floor dysfunction? 🤔

There are several signs and symptoms that are similar between UTIs and PFD.

However, there are symptoms that are only present with a UTI and would warrant an antibiotic for treatment —

If tests for UTI are negative it’s likely those symptoms could pelvic floor related.

And it can be common to have PFD AND a UTI. If your symptoms still persist after treating the UTI — see a PF physical therapist!
