❄️ Happy Wellness Center Wednesday from Grand Traverse Pavilions! ❄️
It’s officially a Snow Day here in Traverse City! While the freshly fallen snow looks like a winter wonderland, we know it also brings some tricky, icy conditions to our sidewalks and driveways.
Whether you’re heading out to clear the porch or just taking a breath of fresh winter air, our team at the Wellness Center wants to make sure you stay upright and injury-free.
Here are 4 tips for safely navigating the ice today:
1. Walk Like a Penguin 🐧 To keep your center of gravity over your front leg, bend your knees slightly and take short, shuffling steps. Point your toes out slightly—it may look funny, but it’s the safest way to avoid a slip!
2. Hands Out, Not in Pockets 👐 It’s tempting to tuck your hands away to keep them warm, but keeping your arms out at your sides helps you maintain balance. If you do slip, having your hands free can help you steady yourself.
3. Choose the Right Traction 🥾 Wear boots with heavy treads or consider slipping on a pair of ice cleats (like YakTrax). If you use a cane or walker, make sure the rubber tips are in good condition or use an ice-piercing attachment.
4. Stick to the "Salty" Path 🧂 Whenever possible, stick to surfaces that have been clearly sanded or salted. Avoid "shortcuts" through the snow, as they often hide patches of black ice.
If the ice has you feeling a bit unsteady on your feet this season, our Wellness Center therapists are here to help with balance training and fall prevention. Give us a call at (231) 932-3172 to learn more about our outpatient therapy and wellness programs.
Stay warm, stay safe, and enjoy the snow day! ☕❄️
