Get to Know Ben Whipple, LLPC 🛋️
Finding a therapist is a significant step. Ben combines clinical expertise with a compassionate, professional approach to help you make meaningful progress.
Read his Q&A below to see if his style is the right fit for your needs.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
One song or artist that always gets you out of a funk?
Jacob Collier’s music always reconnects me with beauty and goodness, and his version of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” (with Yebba, John Legend, and Tori Kelly) soothes and energizes me every time I listen to it. It’s not a background listen, though…the more attention you give to it, the more it’ll captivate.
Hit the snooze button 5 times or out of bed before the alarm?
Definitely not before the alarm…I’m more of a “set 2 alarms and hope for the best” kind of guy.
Favorite way to spend a day off?
I always thought that having no plan whatsoever was the best way to spend a day off, but I’m realizing that injecting a small amount of intention into the day really makes it pop. These days that might mean planning a family hike, working together with my wife on a house project, or going to a concert at Interlochen or the Alluvion.
One bad habit you’re still working on?
Not responding to people’s texts in a timely manner. Yeah, sorry, that’s me.
Outside your role, what is something that brings you joy?
Seeing my kids grow up, try new things, take on new challenges, think deep thoughts about life, interact with others, develop unique personalities…while all of this brings other emotions as well, joy is definitely there :-)
What’s a question you like to ask your clients early on?
What would make this useful for you?
How would you describe your style in three words?
Curious, Collaborative, Empowering
What’s something people don’t realize is “worth talking about” in therapy?
It’s easy to think about therapy as a place to only talk about what’s going wrong in life, but it’s just as important (maybe more so) to explore what’s going well - where are the strengths, what’s meaningful, what is valuable.
One thing you remind clients of often?
You matter.
Ritual that keeps you grounded to be able to show up to others?
A deep breath in (gathering all the stray bits of distraction, heaviness, and uncertainty) and a slow breath out (clearing space for what’s next), followed by some form of this simple prayer: “Help me be fully here.”
