Led by Dr. Megan Stilwill, a board-certified osteopathic pediatrician, alongside Ali Fitzgibbon, LMSW therapist and Carol Bell, Registered Dietitian, we’ll explore how these behaviors often stem from skill or cooperation deficits rather than willful misbehavior, providing a framework for understanding and supporting children with complex needs, including those with ADHD, anxiety, and sensory processing challenges. Our goal is to empower families with practical, foundational strategies to build a more balanced and supportive home environment. >> learn more and sign up at the link in our profile or visit eventbrite.tablehealth.com

As we wrap up World Breastfeeding Week, let's talk about the incredible support system you deserve.

Your feeding journey, whatever it looks like, is a deeply personal one, and you shouldn't have to navigate it alone. Here are some resources to help:

Trained Healthcare Professionals: Professionals like me, family physicians, obstetricians, pediatricians, as well as International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs), are here to provide evidence-based guidance.

Workplace Accommodations: The PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act ensures that most employees are entitled to breaks and a private space for pumping.

Government Programs: Programs like WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children) offer nutritional assistance and support.

Community Groups: Connecting with other moms can provide invaluable support and encouragement.

We are proud to be a part of your support system, offering a safe space to ask questions and get the personalized care you need. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us at Table Health

It's important to remember that breastfeeding isn’t just about baby—and mom's health is paramount too!

Did you know that breastfeeding can actually reduce a mother's risk of developing type 2 diabetes, hypertension and certain cancers, including breast and ovarian cancers? And it appears longer duration of breastfeeding (whether that’s with one child or added up with multiple children) results in greater reduction of cancer risk. Your body is doing incredible work!

I also want to bring awareness to a lesser-known condition called Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex (D-MER). This is a real condition where some women experience transient intense negative feelings (emotional and/or physical) right before or during milk letdown and generally subsides within seconds to minutes. If this sounds like you, know that you're not alone and there are ways to manage it.

Your well-being is at the heart of our practice. We're here to provide the compassionate care you need.

Whether you're direct breastfeeding, bottle-feeding with expressed milk, using donor milk, or formula, there's a term for it: inclusive breastfeeding. It’s about celebrating all the ways you nourish your baby.

The most important thing is that your baby is fed, and every mother’s feeding journey is unique.

Tips for Combination Feeding
Paced bottle-feeding: This method helps a baby control the flow of milk, making bottle-feeding a more natural experience. Hold your baby in a semi-upright position and the bottle in a more horizontal angle.

Separate bottles: It's best to keep breast milk and formula in separate bottles because they have different storage guidelines. This helps you reduce waste and keep track of what's what.

No matter how you feed your baby, the love and connection you share is what truly matters.

Let's continue busting myths so you can feel more confident and supported on your breastfeeding journey!

Myth: "My milk isn't coming in!"
Fact: For the first few days after birth, your breasts produce colostrum—a nutrient-dense, antibody-rich "first milk." Babies only need a very small amount per feeding. Your milk typically "comes in" and increases in volume around 3–5 days postpartum. The more frequently you remove milk, the more your body is encouraged to make. If you're concerned about low milk production, seek an early evaluation to help you meet your breastfeeding goals.

Myth: "I'm not pumping as much, so my supply must be dropping!"
Fact: Don't forget to replace your pump parts! Worn-out parts can significantly reduce a pump's efficiency and milk output. For optimal functioning, replace:

• Valves/membranes: Every 2–6 weeks
• Duckbills: Every 1–3 months
• Diaphragms/backflow protectors: Every 3–6 months
• Breast shields/flanges: Every 6–12 months

If a pump tune-up doesn't help, there could be other reasons for a drop in milk supply that we can explore together.

Our team is here to help you navigate these common challenges without judgment.

Comment with your breastfeeding questions.

Redefining Healthcare: Custom, Affordable, Quality & Comprehensive Care for Your Everyday Health Needs and Goals

Welcome to Table Health, a Primary Care and Functional Medicine collective addressing the root cause, not just symptoms, so you can heal.

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a membership based healthcare model not only for individuals and families, but for businesses, too. It’s a lot like a gym membership or unlimited cellular and data phone service where you make monthly payments in exchange for full access. For an affordable monthly fee, your DPC family doctor will take care of all the primary health needs for your family, from your annual exam to stitching up your child’s finger, and everything in between.

Our comprehensive, physician guided individual programs are designed to support you in your quest toward optimal health. We meet you where you are, honor where you’ve been, and help you get to where you want to be.

Share your story and we’ll listen to create a plan to support your transformation.
