How I support my clients throughout their breastfeeding journey…

Postpartum can be a challenging time, filled with physical recovery, emotional shifts, and the demands of caring for a newborn. It’s a period where support matters more than ever—whether it’s from a partner, family, lactation specialist, or a doula. Having someone to help with rest, reassurance, and breastfeeding can ease the transition and allow space for healing and bonding. With the right support, postpartum becomes not just about getting through the days, but about feeling nurtured, confident, and cared for as you step into this new chapter.

5 natural comfort measures…

🌬️ Breathing techniques during labor provide significant benefits, including enhanced pain control, reduced anxiety, and increased oxygenation for both mother and baby. These techniques help maintain focus, promote muscle relaxation, manage the intensity of contractions, and can shorten the duration of the pushing

👐 Counter pressure in labor provides significant pain relief, by applying steady, firm pressure to the lower back, hips, or sacrum during contractions. This technique distracts from pain, eases muscle tension, promotes relaxation, and helps manage labor intensity

🙌 Massage during labor offers significant physical and emotional benefits, including reduced pain perception, decreased anxiety, and shorter labor durations. It also promotes relaxation, boosts natural oxytocin and endorphins.

💦 Hydrotherapy during labor - using warm water immersion (tubs or showers)—offers significant benefits, including enhanced pain relief comparable to medications, increased relaxation, reduced anxiety, and shorter labor durations. It increases buoyancy, allowing for easier movement, and helps reduce pressure on the body.

💙 Color therapy (chromotherapy) during labor uses specific colored lights or environments to reduce anxiety, alleviate pain, and promote relaxation. It helps create a calming atmosphere, distracts from discomfort, and can improve a mother’s mood and energy levels, contributing to a more positive birthing experience.

This photo is blurry because I was shaking…

I was shaking from a long labor.

I was shaking from doing lots of counter pressure and position changes.

I was shaking because my blood sugar levels were low but I didn’t mind.

I was shaking out of excitement because I love what I Doula!!

I was shaking because of all the love in the air!

I am proud of this blurry photo because I was doing what I love most, supporting an amazing birthing person.

Getting to snuggle baby while her mom cleaned up was an honor… and the baby didn’t mind that I was shaking 😊

What is a Birth Doula?

A birth doula is a trained, non-medical professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum.

Doulas offer comfort measures, advocacy, and guidance. They are companions. They are holders of your space.

- Emotional Support: Encouragement, reassurance, and a calm presence to reduce anxiety.

- Physical Support: Comfort measures like massage, counter pressure, suggesting labor positions, and helping with breathing.

- Informational Support: Answering questions, explaining procedures, and helping the parents understand options. B.R.A.I.N

- Advocacy: Ensuring the birthing parent’s preferences and needs are heard by the medical staff.

Key Outcomes (Research Shows):

- Reduced Interventions: Lower rates of C-sections, Pitocin, and epidural use.

- Shorter Labor: Can decrease overall labor length.

- Higher Satisfaction: Increased positive feelings about the birth experience.

- Better Breastfeeding: Higher rates of initiating and continuing breastfeeding.

Hiring a Doula has so many benefits. Hello, my name is Elizabeth and I am a Birth Doula. I have had the privilege of doing this work for 11 years and have supported over 350 births. I would love to support you too! Click on the link in my bio for more information. I hope to hear from you soon.

Labor is one of the most intense and vulnerable experiences a person can go through, and having a supportive partner can make a profound difference.

A partner’s presence provides emotional reassurance, physical comfort, and a sense of safety during an unpredictable and demanding process.

Whether it’s offering a steady hand to hold, advocating for needs, or simply being present in each moment, that support helps reduce stress and build confidence.

Strong partner support during labor not only strengthens the bond between both individuals but also creates a more positive and empowering birth experience.
