Heartland Hospice Traverse City has been recognized with a 4-STAR rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for excellence in hospice care. The CMS STAR Ratings, based on the CAHPS Hospice Survey (Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems), reflect the experiences of family caregivers and provide the public with a simple, reliable way to compare hospice providers through the CMS Care Compare website.

The 47-question survey measures key areas of hospice care, including:
- Communication with Family
- Getting Timely Help
- Treating Patient with Respect, Emotional and Spiritual Support
- Help for Pain and Symptoms
- Care Preferences
- Training Family to Care for Patient
- Overall Rating of Hospice Care
- Willingness to Recommend the Hospice
