Spring has returned to northern Michigan. The grass is starting to green and the most resilient blooms have pushed above the still, cold ground. 🪻🌱💐
The brown and gray are slowly being replaced with diversity of color and increased warmth and light permeate the air.
🌀This season serves as a reminder of the cyclical nature of existence, where seeds that are planted within the death and decay, begin to sprout and flourish, paving the way for new beginnings.
⚖️Cross diagonal balance postures are a physical practice that embodies the attributes of spring.
💪To cultivate strength and stability we must go at our own pace, reflecting on the growth that occurs through consistent practice, contemplation, and perseverance. ☯️These poses require the interplay of opposing forces to create stability and harmony within the body.
We must engage our core and stabilize our limbs while simultaneously extending out in opposing directions.
💠This action mirrors the principles of symmetry in nature, where oppositional forces, coexist and interact to create a harmonious ecosystem.
🌗These postures can also be seen as a metaphor for life’s dualities and the necessity of integrating opposing energies to achieve equilibrium.
🕉️Our yoga practice asks us to find stability and alignment within our bodies, which parallels, our want to more gracefully navigate the complexities and opposing forces in everyday life.
The physical demands of cross diagonal balances challenge us to confront our limitations and break free from stagnant patterns. This fosters resilience and adaptability, which are qualities that are essential for guiding us through the uncertainties of life towards a renewed sense of purpose.

I am back in my northern Michigan home after traveling for the past five months. Lately, I have been focused on getting my house back in order. Each day, I’ve been sorting through and letting go of so much that has accumulated in this home, where each of my four kids and I have lived for varying points of time for over a decade.
The past year I have taken time to write and compile over ten years worth of my thoughts into a cohesive chronicle of what has brought me to this place right here, right now. Revisiting, remembering, contemplating, and choosing what remains important and what is no longer relevant. Creating space for the next level of my becoming.

April second in northern Michigan. The nearly silent, sound of snowflakes gently tapping against the window panes. Streams of white flakes falling from the sky, sometimes in currents and when the wind picks up, sideways, swirling spirals. The fresh, crisp, unmistakable wintry smell in the air as each unique, flake blankets, the surfaces creating a perfect juxtaposition of light on top of dark.

We have landed near the matanzas pass bridge across Fort Myers Beach, for the month of February. We are on an island situated between bodies of water with outcroppings of mangroves dotted throughout with ravages of what the last hurricanes left behind in boats, parts of docks, and random items wedged within branches. The quieter feel of the keys has been replaced with the bustle of beach goers, traffic and ongoing construction. I’m grateful for my bike and to be able to maneuver around all of places that are still being rebuilt. All, a reminder of the Majesty and strength of nature side by side with the unwavering resilience of humans beings.

🌠The past few months, I have lost friends and followers on social media. When I taught regular classes at specific studios over the years, often times, even if I felt strongly about something controversial that I had learned and explored more in-depth; I would just remain quiet in certain conversations so not to create conflict. I have learned that not everyone is as willing to question subjects that they thought to be true, when evidence based science and source information that was purposely kept from them, is brought to light. All too often, most are ruled by cognitive dissonance because it is hard to admit that we were mistaken because we decided not to dig deeper into something that we were taught was true by those who we thought, had our best interest at heart. These past few months I have decided to speak up more than I ever have before. I feel like when things are fundamentally wrong, it is our duty to speak up no matter who it is for or against. As humans, and yogis, I truly believe we have to make decisions for the greater good of the whole. Sometimes that means recognizing that we blindly believed what we were told by those in charge, but through research on uncensored platforms and listening to discussions between other critical thinkers, it was brought to our attention that things were not the way we thought they were within the comfort zone of not taking the time and energy to question it. Sometimes we have to choose something that is imperfect, so that the parts contained within the whole that are in alignment with what can affect the greatest good for now, can begin to take hold. As a mother for the past 30 years, if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it is you have to pick your battles. We have to be patient and decide what to focus on first and trust in our heart that we inherently know. We must always ask questions, do our best to discern what is actually true from its source and always remain the student.

It’s been almost a month since we arrived here in Big Pine Key. This has been the first Christmas ever, that most of my kids were with not with me for the holiday. It is a new era for me and I welcome it. I turned 50 in May, my eldest turned 30 in December and my youngest moved out this fall to begin college. For the second time in my life, I have purposely taken a break from teaching regular classes, to focus on other modes of expression. I’ve come back full circle to practicing yoga the way my guru taught me in my first training with all the other aspects that I’ve learned and found beneficial, over the past two decades, sprinkled in. Breathing in fresh air with the windows open and being outside in nature, doing the things that I love year round, is definitely the medicine that I needed as I try on this new way of navigating the world. I am beyond grateful for this current season of my life and what the new year holds. #2025

Waking up to the sun beginning to filter through the curtains of the airstream, cueing that a new day is upon us, has become one of my favorite parts of my day. I love being able to go out outside, put on some flip-flops and walk down to the beach and watch the sunrise in it’s varied explosion of color and brightness, like my own personal daily art show. The fresh air, salt water, and seemingly never ending surprises that I get to explore on land and in the water in this new climate, have been the medicine I needed to inspire me so I could reclaim my innate creativity. I love my exercise being riding my bike, paddling, rock hopping, yoga/calisthenics and walking on the beach.
I am beyond grateful.

Think how convoluted things become when we listen to other’s perceptions of the sequence of events, or we take one persons word for it, instead of going to the source. When directed to write throughout our time in higher education, we are taught the importance of citing multiple reputable sources. They say that history is written by those in control. Very often we have to dig a little deeper and read multiple accounts of an experience to actually get to the facts. That is why it’s so important for us to share our differing perspectives and experiences. We all have an internal compass that guides us to what feels right at the core of our being. In yogic tradition we are taught to do what we think is best for the betterment of the whole… not our own personal gain. In this world that can be hard because we often feel that have so many battles to fight personally, locally, even globally. We must keep showing up, doing our best to discern what is truth, and become a warrior for that, committing to use our unique gifts and talents to positively contribute as only we can. 📸 credit

My heart breaks for our country, our world. 🇺🇸🌏
🌀It is undemocratic that our ability to vote for a third-party candidate was stolen from us by frivolous lawsuits, designed to bankrupt someone with different beliefs so that we remains stuck in a two-party system that does not work and exacerbates the rampant divide in our country.
🗳️It is undemocratic that we were not able to vote for the Democratic candidate in the primarily and we were lied to and then force fed someone in mental decline.
🪆It is not OK that when it was finally brought to light, we were then offered a puppet replacement that was never even elected by the DNC in a primary election.
🩺🏥It is criminal that the biggest donors to our medical schools are pharmaceutical companies, and our doctors are not even taught about nutrition or prevention, because their donors make more money and even give them incentives for writing more prescriptions for peoples maladies, instead of figuring out the root cause. 🔵It is criminal that the current administration has done nothing to affect change in the FDA (who is heavily influenced by big food, and big agriculture) and has yet to outlaw the toxic chemicals and pesticides in the food we eat, which are illegal in other countries.
⚕️It is criminal that we don’t teach nutrition and preventative ways to stay healthy in our public school systems and the kids that aren’t lucky enough to have parents teach them that at home are at a disadvantage.
🍭🥣🍟It is criminal that we have to boycott big food companies to get the attention of our government so hopefully one day they will step up and make much-needed changes.
🆓🗣️It is undemocratic that the current administration created a governmental agency to focus on censoring “misinformation“
and actually created a new word…“disinformation“
because much of what they were censoring was often actually the truth.
🙈🙉🙊It is undemocratic that our Democratic candidate for president thinks that it’s OK to not enforce our first amendment… the core of American democracy… and has actually said on numerous occasions that it should be regulated by the government.
⚖️It is not OK that Roe versus Wade was overturned, and that women are losing the ability to choose what goes on with their bodies, but it’s also hypocritical that those calling for these rights for women, tried to force all humans to get an untested vaccine under threat of losing their jobs and freedom to travel, which never even worked as well as natural immunity to begin with and has now been proven to cause more harm than good in many individuals, in relation health issues… myocarditis, turbo cancers, fertility issues, people of all ages dropping dead…cause unknown…
Just to name a few.
⛔️☣️It is unconscionable that our country is helping to fund genocide and forever wars.
🌪️🌎It is not OK that we don’t prioritize our own struggling citizens, the homeless, and our hurricane victims in the mountains of North Carolina and Florida with the money that we so freely give away to other countries.
💉It is criminal that the FDA now recommends 79 doses, of vaccinations in children by the age of 16 and we have tens of thousands of vaccine injuries every year with no recourse or compensation due to the national childhood vaccine injury act of 1986.
😷It is not OK that America is ranked to have the worst child health outcomes, the highest infant mortality rate, a 20% child obesity rate, a 40% chronic disease rate in children and 70% of deaths in America are due to chronic disease that is preventable.
🚑It is not OK that despite spending the most on healthcare, we as Americans are the sickest and die the youngest, among wealthy nations.
💠I could go on and on, but that is just some of what I have observed as being the most blatant in relation to the s**t show that is our country and our world currently.
We need to do better.🌠

🌠Plans change.
If I’ve learned anything throughout the 50 years that I’ve lived on this planet, it is that even the best laid plans can need to be altered.
🌊As humans, we are ever evolving beings surfing on the waves of impermanence that swash and crash throughout our world. We cannot depend on anything other than our innate ability to adapt to what comes, release what goes and choose as to how we pick ourselves up and put ourselves back together as we move forward and navigate the unforeseen breakers that we encounter on this dynamic planet.
🎁I have learned that very often, the plan b’s we are asked to make are the universe giving us a gift. When we are forced to step out of our comfort zone, we can create something new that we hadn’t even dreamed up yet within the confines of our limited past experience.
💠This is where the magic happens. Even within the feelings of discomfort and loss, we become unlimited, shifting our perspective and our vision as we up our game to the next level. 📸 credit

🌠In Yogic myth the sage, Vasistha, was the guru to King Ram, who was a Hindu god in human form put on earth to restore Dharma.
Vasistha helped Ram shift his perspective when dealing with so many difficult experiences living as a human in the world, reminding him of his resilience and inherent divinity.
🌟We are all so much more than just our body, mind and emotions…
our true nature is limitless.
This clarity allowed King Ram to reframe the seemingly insurmountable challenges and devastations, and see them as opportunities for growth and evolution.
🌀Through Vasisthas counsel, Ram recognized that the root of our suffering occurs when we get mired in our physical circumstances that are ever changing and often uncomfortable.

💠When we use our unique dharma, our gifts and talents, purposefully, for the betterment of the whole… while staying awake and aware to the magic that is always around in the grandest and simplest of forms, we uncover contentment, even joy, in each moment.
We learn to find acceptance in what is, which leads to liberation and the realization that we are each one and the same with the divine.
🧘When we practice side plank or vasisthasana, we have many options as to how we support ourselves on one side and extend upward and out on the other. We are asked to trust in our intuition and choose the option that serves us best, maybe even skipping it altogether, each time we practice.
Leaning into the wobble, building our strength or choosing to modify when necessary.
✨Like the wise sage this posture was named after, we become our own teacher, staying present to what is in each moment no matter how difficult… trusting in our innate wisdom as a unique embodiment of the the divine.
These insights we learn on our mat translate to our life, and it becomes a moment by moment practice, to tune into the space of our truest essence as to what we need most.
🙏🏻We work, rest, enjoy, restore, and we become more intentional and adept at consistently showing up as the best version of ourself in everything we do. na 📸
