SATURATED FAT IS BAD FOR YOU ! …

if it’s the wrong kind!

We have all heard that saturated fat is bad for you and clogs your arteries and it’s TRUE…. Partially

Life is rarely black on white, real life is nuanced and proper context is very important. This topic is no different

The majority of meat and fat people are eating these days comes from the industrial food system. Which is mostly terrible for you and not the same as pasture raised meat from local farms

Factory farms are driven by profit and not by creating health food, they feed their animals the cheapest food available to fatten them up as quickly as possible and increase their bottom line.

I have seen research showing that many industrial farms also use things such as,

- saw dust
-plastic chips
-dead animal remains ect

You also can’t forget about antibiotics vaccines which are used do to improper farming techniques

Toxins are stored in fat and animals in factory farms are sold by weight
The more toxic the animal, the fatter it is , equals more profit .

Animals are bio-accumulaters, Factory farm raised saturated fat that most people are eating on the standard American diet has a lot of industrial toxins stored in it . Which can lead to inflammation and other health challenges.

There is a big difference between saturated fat / meat from pasture raised sources than that from industrial factory farms .

It’s always best to choose pasture raised/ organic fats and animal products.

In my opinion most of the research showing that saturated fat is bad for you comes from toxic meat from factory farms and not healthy pasture raised meats !

What is a PUFA?

PUFA stands for Poly-Unsaturated-Fatty-Acid.
There are 3 different kinds of dietary fats in nature: poly-unsaturated, mono-unsaturated, and saturated. All foods contain all three fats. In general, saturated fats are found in animal tissue and mono-unsaturated and poly-unsaturated fats are found in plants.

Why can PUFAs be bad?

Saturated fats are completely stable and do not oxidize when heated, therefore they are ideal for cooking. Mono-unsaturated are moderately heat stable and do not oxidize easily. Poly-unsaturated fats are not heat stable and oxidize easily, therefore should not be used for cooking.
When you cook with PUFAs, they oxidize and become rancid which causes inflammation in the body.
Even if they are not use for cooking, eating highly unsaturated foods such as fish oil, nut oils, seeds ect. can also be bad, because the temperature of the body is 98.6 degF and they’re not heat stable, they oxidize inside the body and cause inflammation.

Vegetable (seed) oils are Toxic-

There is a big difference between PUFAs in whole foods vs PUFAs in industrial vegetable (seed) oils. Vegetable oils don’t actually come from vegetables, industrial seed oils such as canola (rapeseed) oil, cotton seed oil, soybean oil, etc. originally came from the textile industry and were not intended as food. Big corporations in the textile industry discovered they could sell their leftover industrial oils as food for profit. It also doesn't help that they’re genetically modified and sprayed with chemicals. Vegetable (seed) oils are very hard for the body to process and when used for cooking they become completely rancid and oxidized, which is extremely inflammatory, and in my opinion, is one of the big contributing factors to the rise in atherosclerosis (heart disease). Unfortunately most restaurants in the U.S. cook with industrial vegetable oils.

Takeaways-

PUFAs are a natural substance that are found in whole foods and are also naturally occurring in the human body. It’s the ratio of unsaturated to saturated that makes the difference. If the majority of fats in your diet come from saturated animal sources, PUFAs are not a big deal. However, industrial vegetable (seed) oils are.
