People in Bloom Therapy Center

People in Bloom Therapy Center People in Bloom Therapy Center provides specialized outpatient therapy services to children, young adults, and families in the northern Michigan region.

My name is Kathy M. Lantzer. I am an outpatient therapist and the owner of People in Bloom Therapy Center. It is my mission to improve life quality for all of my clients by leveraging my experience and dedication as a highly skilled cognitive behavioral therapist. I concentrate on understanding the needs of each client, building trusting professional relationships, administering advanced therapy techniques, and empowering each individual to reach his/her personal wellness goals. I specialize in the treatment of trauma related to abuse, neglect, medical issues, grief, PTSD, emotional disturbance, and other life stressors. Additionally, I am also very skilled with treatments for depression, anxiety, OCD, Bipolar Disorder, family conflicts, and more. My client focus is primarily on children, teenagers, young adults, and families. However, there is no "age cutoff" per say, as I am committed to the well-being of all people. Please do not hesitate to contact me to see if we would make a good match. I accept most insurance plans, as well as cash payment. So as to ensure my clients always have access to state-of-the-art treatment plans that match their unique needs, I have earned several advanced certifications throughout my nearly 20 years of experience as a therapist and emergency services worker. In addition to my Masters of Social Work degree completed in 1998, I have been a Registered Play Therapist since 2002; a Certified Trauma and Loss Consultant since 2010; and a Certified Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (TF-CBT) since 2013. Additionally, I earned certification to practice Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) in 2015, which makes me one of just a handful of therapists in the northern Michigan region qualified to administer this incredibly valuable form of treatment to all age groups. The advanced therapy techniques of TF-CBT and EMDR are extremely beneficial to traumatized, depressed, anxious, or severely emotionally disturbed children and adults, who do not always have positive responses to the more standard therapy techniques. In the past few years, I have watched as people around the country have increasingly sought these techniques out due to the profound effectiveness and evidence-based speed of recovery. Both techniques facilitate long-term-wellness through short-term, targeted recovery methods. At the People in Bloom Therapy Center, there is a fully stocked playroom on site for children, as well as a comfortable therapy environment for teens, adults, and families. Another aspect that sets me apart as a therapist is my licensed therapy dog, Cooper, who is available at appointments upon request. He has become a widely popular asset in the treatment of children and teens with anxiety and trauma. Cooper loves to give hugs and listen to all kinds of stories! At People in Bloom, I am committed to helping you or your family achieve long-term wellness. This is the feeling you're going for when you make a huge leap in your life: equal parts excitement and terror.

We don’t need to entertain children. We need to give them time, space, trust, and materials—and then get out of the way.

Children aren’t waiting to be entertained—they’re waiting to be trusted.
When we offer time, space, and open-ended materials, something shifts. We start to see what children are capable of when we’re not directing every move.

It’s not always easy to step back. We’re used to jumping in, guiding, narrating, filling the quiet. But play doesn’t need our scripts. It needs our respect.

Maybe our role isn’t to keep children busy—but to protect the space where their play can unfold.
