Winter is approaching, lets shine light on Seasonal Affective Disorder or S.A.D.
Seasonal Affective Disorder is a mood disorder that happens at a specific time of year, most commonly during the winter months.
Treatment for S.A.D can vary from person to person, no single case is ever the same, but there are treatment options for you.
1. Lifestyle changes: This could mean changing sleeping habits, increase your exercise, changing your diet, and addressing underlying health conditions.
2. Keep a journal: Keeping a journal can help keep track of patterns, things/events that increase depression, stress, or anxiety. Journaling may also help keep you self aware of your feelings.
3. Medication: Medication may not be everyone's first choice, but it is an excellent form of treatment. Discuss possible medication with your doctor for what the best line of treatment may be for you.
4. Therapy: Therapy is an extremely useful tool to some who may not be open to medication. Expressing and understanding your feelings is a key role in taking charge of your mental health.
5. Exposure to sun light: Light therapy mimics natural outdoor light and appears to cause a change in brain chemicals linked to mood. This could be done through natural light, or an artificial light box, which can be purchased online.
6.Making a routine: Staying on a routine helps keep your mind and body balanced.
