It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Trenton Pharmacy, an independent pharmacy that has been an integral part of our Downriver community for nearly two years.
Despite our relatively short time in operation, we’ve served the Downriver community through the pandemic providing COVID-19 PCR and rapid testing, COVID vaccines, Shingrix and Flu vaccines, educational presentations to senior residents, in addition to COVID vaccine clinics for senior homes. We also provided free delivery to all patients prioritizing the needs of our precious elders in the community.
The challenges imposed on our business by pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) have proven insurmountable. Throughout our time as Trenton Pharmacy, we have been dedicated to providing personalized care and convenience to our patients. However, the unjust practices of PBMs have posed significant obstacles to our financial sustainability. Negative reimbursement rates, retroactive DIR fees, and limited network access have all contributed to the strain on our resources and hindered our ability to continue serving our Downriver community effectively.
The decision to close our doors was not taken lightly, but rather with careful consideration of the best interests of our patients and staff. We are deeply grateful to all our loyal patients and supporters who have trusted us with their healthcare needs during our time of operation.
As we bid farewell to Trenton Pharmacy, we join the collective call for urgent reforms in PBM laws and practices. These changes are crucial to creating a fair and equitable environment for independent pharmacies like ours, ensuring their ability to thrive and continue offering personalized care to communities across Michigan.
Once again, we express our heartfelt appreciation to all who have been part of our journey, and we remain hopeful that the necessary reforms will pave the way for a future where independent pharmacies can flourish and provide essential healthcare services for years to come.
