Happy World Down Syndrome Day! This unique awareness day gives us the opportunity to spotlight all our patients living with Trisomy 21.
Aveanna patient Brody was born with Down Syndrome and Tracheobronchomalacia (TBM). After several procedures, he came home from the NICU with nursing care to begin his next adventure. That's when Aveanna nurse Rhonda came into his life, supporting his G-tube feedings, monitoring his oxygen, and ensuring he and his family had the resources they needed for each step of their journey.
"From the first day I met Brody, I recognized his determination, potential, and his big personality," said Rhonda. "Since we've worked together, he has mastered bottle feeding and has had his G-tube removed. He also no longer requires oxygen! He is exploring new foods, holding his own cup, becoming more mobile, and he is even starting to chase his shadows in the sun."
Brody's progress with Nurse Rhonda has not been lost on his family. Her steadfast support through every challenge and milestone has given his family the confidence in their loved one's future and his unique talents.
"Nurse Rhonda has encouraged him, celebrated every victory, and helped him work through each new challenge," said his parents. "Her patience, compassion, and commitment have meant more to our family than words can express."
On World Down Syndrome Day, we celebrate patients like Brody and the amazing caregivers who stand beside them. Thank you for your support and compassion!
