He specialized at a young age, playing brass instruments and was a member of the Allen Park High School band. However, he was especially known for his love of drumming and was a member of many bands where he was the lead drummer as well as a paid studio musician. James was a brilliant student that graduated with a BFA from Wayne State University with honors and achieved a near 4.0 GPA.

James was a compassionate and generous individual who had a way of counseling others that was powerful, emphatic and meaningful. He regularly emphasized his belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ and recently spoke to several family members about forgiveness and to not hold grudges.

Timothy Leo Sousa

Timothy Leo Sousa, born and raised in Detroit, passed away surrounded by love and laughter — just the way he lived his life. Known to most as Papa, Tim was the kind of man who could light up any room with a joke, a clever saying, or his signature laugh that made everything feel a little better.

He was the beloved son of Romey and Marie Sousa and one of eight siblings. He shared a lifetime of laughs, love, and stories with Michael Sousa (Barbara), June Blackburn (Wh**ey), Dorothy Werth (Paul), Adel Thompson, Fred Sousa (Maryanne), Karen Frabotta (Frank) , and Kay Sousa (Marvin).

Tim’s life was full of humor, heart, and unforgettable one-liners. If you knew him, you probably still find yourself repeating one of his classic sayings — and laughing every time. He didn’t take life too seriously, but he loved deeply and showed up for the people who mattered most.

He is survived by his loving children, Thomas and Heather, and his adoring grandchildren Steven, Matthew, Brandon, Alex, Cherlene, Victoria, and Racheal. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren Anthony, Mariah, Aaliyah, Troy and Aubree — all of whom inherited a little bit of his sparkle.

Tim and his late wife Nancy also shared a lifelong bond with Gail and Richard. Together, they raised their families side by side – creating a connection stronger than blood. Lisa Garcia, Lorrie Hodnicki, David Garcia, and Andrea Jones (formerly Garcia) were like children to Tim. He is also reunited with Anthony Garcia who was like a son to him and held a special place in his heart. The memories they shared will live on as part of his enduring legacy.

Tim is reunited in peace with his beloved wife Nancy, daughter Kelly, grandson Thomas, daughter-in-law Debbie, and many other loved ones. We know he’s already cracking jokes and keeping the heavens laughing.

He was one of a kind — a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and the life of every room. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and always celebrated with laughter.

She nurtured her household with warmth, providing a constant source of support and love that shaped the lives of all who had the privilege to know her.

Carolyn's spirit brought joy both to her family gatherings and to the quiet moments spent sitting on the porch with her dog Cody, where she often delighted in watching the mailman and for the world to go by.

Her family was her everything, and she poured her heart into raising her children, each of whom carries pieces of her kindness and strength: her daughter Debbie (Mike) Tyler, her sons Jim (Lisa) Baldwin and Ed (Donna) Baldwin, and her daughter Kat (Juan) Ortiz. Her grandchildren – Elena, Katerina, Angie, Brina, Brandi (Johnathan), Amber (Ben), and Edward (Tika) – were the lights of her life, who brought her immeasurable joy. Carolyn reveled in the role of grandmother and great-grandmother, and she watched with pride as her legacy continued through her great-grandchildren Belle, Summer, Liv, Julianna, and Edward.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, including her late husband, James J. Baldwin, whose memory she cherished throughout her life. Joining him in eternal rest are her parents, Frank and Elizabeth Goss, and siblings Virginia (the late Bud) Herr, Delbert (the late Donna) Goss, Gilbert (the late Nancy) Goss, and Patsy (the late Don) Boren, along with her beloved dog, Cody.

Carolyn’s home on Campbell Street in Southwest Detroit always had an open door where you could get a glass of “Hon’s famous iced tea”.

Carolyn Baldwin's life was defined by her unwavering love for family and her tireless spirit. She leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories that will continue to inspire and guide her family, reminding them to cherish each moment and to always hold one another close.
