On December 21, 2022, Capital Health assumed responsibility for health care services previously provided by St. This transition of operations is necessary due to declining patient volumes and the serious financial distress faced by St. That campus, which now operates an Emergency Department and some outpatient services, has been renamed Capital Health – East Trenton and no longer operates as an acute care hospital.

Earlier today, we learned that space we are leasing from Trinity Health at the former St. Francis campus needs to begin shutdown activities immediately due to significant structural issues with an adjoining building connected to our Satellite Emergency Department and outpatient clinic located on Bert Avenue in Trenton. With the transition of St. Francis Medical Center to Capital Health now complete, we are pleased to offer shuttles between Capital Health – East Trenton and Capital Health Regional Medical Center. The shuttle is available to patients and visitors and will depart from the turnaround in front of the former Chambers Street Lobby. The Emergency Department is still open 24/7 at Capital Health – East Trenton in the same location on Bert Avenue (off of Hamilton Avenue). See below for more details about the shuttle.

Capital Health – East Trenton, formerly the location of St. Francis Medical Center, offers a 24/7 Emergency Department as well as some outpatient medical clinic services. It’s also still the home of what is now the Capital Health School of Nursing – Regional Medical Center, the Capital Health School of Radiologic Technology – East Trenton, and the C.A.R.E.S youth behavioral health program. If you are coming to Capital Health – East Trenton, here are a few important things to know:

• The Emergency Department remains open to care for our community 24/7.
• This location is no longer an acute care hospital.
• The Chambers Street lobby is no longer an entry point to the building. Please use the entrances on Bert Avenue (for the ED, outpatient clinic, and School of Radiologic Technology), St. Francis Avenue (for the School of Nursing), or the lobby near the corner of Hamilton Avenue and Bert Avenue (for the C.A.R.E.S program).

The transition of services from St. Francis Medical Center to Capital Health is officially complete. As of today, St. Francis Medical Center is no longer operating as an acute care hospital. The Emergency Department remains open to the community 24/7 at the same location, 601 Hamilton Ave in Trenton, NJ, which has been renamed Capital Health – East Trenton. Other services such as the outpatient clinic, CARES Child Wellness Program, School of Nursing, and School of Radiologic Technology remain open at Capital Health – East Trenton. Capital Health and St. Francis Receive Approvals for Transition of St. Francis to Capital Health; Set December Date for Transaction Close and Transfer of Operations. Capital Health. St. Francis Medical Center, and Trinity Health have obtained key approvals for Capital Health to take over services from St. Francis. To ensure there is no disruption of services to the community, the organizations are planning for a December 21 completion of the transaction and services transition.
