Gov. Mikie Sherrill's proposed budget includes $12.8 million to expand Family Connects NJ, a program that sends specially trained nurses to visit families at home within two weeks of a baby's birth, to all 21 counties by early 2027.

Since launching in 2024, nurses have visited more than 10,000 families, and in 2025 alone, more than half were connected to critical resources like mental health services, food assistance, and lactation support. The numbers speak for themselves.

In a unanimous 89-0 vote at its October 2025 Annual Business Meeting, the New Jersey State Nurses Association (NJSNA) approved Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) for official membership, a historic first. A two-year pilot program launched January 1, 2026, gives LPN members access to continuing education, advocacy, and networking, plus dual membership in the Forum of Licensed Practical Nurses (FLPN).
