A big thank you to our generous partners at Penn Medicine Princeton Health and Chick-fil-A Lawrenceville for supporting our Community Doula Program!

Our doulas recently participated in a meaningful day of training: strengthening their knowledge, building skills, and deepening their commitment to the mothers and families they serve. The day ended on a high note with a delicious lunch generously provided by Chick-fil-A Lawrenceville.

We are deeply grateful for community partners who invest in the health, education, and nourishment of families. Together, we’re helping ensure that every parent has the support they need for a healthy start.

We are excited to celebrate nine new community doulas who graduated from our Community Doula Training. This is the fourth group CHSofNJ has trained for Trenton and Mercer County communities.

These graduates will now offer trusted support to families during pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. Research shows that having a doula can improve birth outcomes, reduce unnecessary interventions, and lower health care costs - a powerful step toward healthier moms, babies, and communities.

From one child to another, Mahi’s kindness is making a difference.

Through her thoughtful work of knitting soft, cuddly toys for toddlers in our Early Head Start centers, Mahi continues to bring smiles to little faces. Last week, students recognized for their attendance received one of these handmade treasures, each one a small gift carrying a big message of care and encouragement.

Moments like this remind us how acts of kindness, no matter the size, can brighten a child’s day and inspire others to give back.

We’re proud to share that Silvia Corado, CBD, CHW, CHSofNJ’s AMAR Community Doula Program Administrator, and Julie Blumenfeld, DNP, CNM, FACNM, FAAN of Rutgers University, presented this week in Washington, DC at a conference hosted by Jhpiego.

The conference, “From Local to Global: Increasing Access to Doula Care and Birth Support,” brought together local leaders, professional associations, and funders to discuss evidence, share experiences, and explore solutions for expanding access to doula care.

Silvia and Dr. Blumenfeld were invited to highlight CHSofNJ’s AMAR Community Doula Program as a best practice model for community-based doula care in the United States.

Jhpiego is a global nonprofit leader focused on improving the health of women and families worldwide.

A few months ago, a mom who first connected with our Safer Childbirth Cities program at a community baby shower was referred to CHSofNJ’s Healthy Women, Healthy Families postpartum doula, Elisha McLean.

What followed was more than a series of visits, it was a relationship rooted in trust, compassion, and unwavering support during one of life’s most vulnerable transitions.

At the completion of her postpartum care, this grateful mother did something extraordinary: she presented Elisha with an award, along with a handwritten letter and card expressing her heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional care she received.

Moments like this remind us that community-based doula support is not just about services — it’s about showing up, listening deeply, and walking alongside mothers as they heal, grow, and thrive.

We are so proud of Elisha and our entire doula team for the life-changing impact they make every day.

Our annual Adoption Program gathering at CHSofNJ brought together parents, children, and friends for a carnival-themed day filled with laughter and connection.

From classic games and exciting prizes to carnival treats, crafts, and a shared lunch, there was something for everyone. Children raced between activities, caregivers reconnected and shared stories, and new friendships formed in between rounds of ring toss and face painting.

And as the photos show… some kids never really grow up. 😊 Parents joined in the games, volunteers got into the carnival spirit, and the joy was contagious across every age group.

Events like this are more than just fun (though there was plenty of that!). They create space for connection, belonging, and celebration — reminders that family comes in many beautiful forms.

Because a happy childhood lasts a lifetime — and we are honored to help create moments that families will carry with them for years to come.

Join us for an unforgettable evening with our emcee, Jim Donovan—a 15-time Emmy Award winner and one of our region’s most trusted voices. Jim joined CBS Philadelphia in 2004 as the station’s “On Your Side” consumer reporter, and in 2016 he took the helm of the morning newscast, helping relaunch and grow it into one of the area’s most-watched programs.

Now, he’s bringing that same energy and passion for community to Champions for Children on March 28.

There’s still time to secure your seat—but not for long. Don’t miss this inspiring evening of leadership, impact, and celebration. Get your tickets today!

Thank you to NonProfitConnect and Allison Howe for coordinating last week’s BoardConnect Meet & Greet Fair.

We were proud to have CHSofNJ Board of Trustees member Crystal Moore represent the agency, joined by Karen Faiman, Duncan Harrison, and Dolores Bryant. The event created a meaningful space to connect with passionate leaders and explore new partnerships that will help advance our mission and expand our impact for children and families across New Jersey.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to build relationships with individuals who share our commitment to community-driven change.

We are overjoyed to share that the Community Doula Program at Children's Home Society of New Jersey has just welcomed its 500th baby through our AMAR program!
Since 2019, AMAR has proudly served Spanish-speaking families across Mercer County, walking alongside mothers throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum journey. Reaching 500 births represents 500 families supported, 500 stories of strength, and 500 new beginnings rooted in care and community.
We’re happy to report that both mom and baby are healthy and doing well - the very outcome we work toward every single day.
This milestone belongs to our dedicated doulas, our courageous mothers, and the partners and supporters who believe every family deserves compassionate, culturally responsive care.
Here’s to 500 healthy beginnings and many more to come.
