This is Dr. Kevin Pineda. buildPl8 worked with him to iterate over 8 different respirator designs to perfect and extend the Montana Mask. This man performed his daily work at Morristown Medical Center, all the while organizing the North Jersey Chapter of OSCMS (a group organizing distribution of PPE to all North Jersey medical facilities). He is responsible for saving the lives of literally hundreds of HCWs and at the same time saving the lives of his patients. He did this for 9 weeks straight and is still doing it.

It is absolutely amazing the reach someone can have when they dedicate their life to service and correcting wrongs in real time. Dr. Pineda is one of those people. He deserves your thanks.

We have started a GoFundMe to help us continue to make The Montana Mask at buildPl8. We make this almost exclusively for second tier and feeder facilities in our home state of New Jersey. We view the issues happening in our Nursing Homes, Hospice Care Centers, Home Care Situations, and Overflow Facilities to be the true emergency. Please help us get more of masks to these people.

When COVID-19 broke we stopped what we were doing to make masks for frontline healthcare providers. We attempted to sell the mask on Facebook in order to fund this effort. We did not want to beg people for funding, we wanted to earn it.

Today Facebook has determined that our ads to sell this mask "exploited a crisis", and sent me this:

Hello Gerry, I had another look at your ad account and unfortunately we won& #039;t be able to re-enable it. Our policies are in place to keep users safe and foster a positive global community. When accounts run ads that don& #039;t comply with these Advertising Policies or other standards, they& #039;re disabled. At this point there& #039;s no further action that you may take. Please consider this decision final. Thanks, Facebook Ads Team

Therefore buildPl8 will have to suspend its free mask program to healthcare workers. We supplied over 325 of these masks and did so happily. However at this point, the lack of support from the federal government, the state, and now Facebook has forced us to stop the program. To the 7 hospitals, 25 nursing homes, 4 hospice care centers, and the countless traveling nurses out there that we helped, we thank you so much for everything you are doing. We wish we could help you more.
