NJSSA is thrilled to welcome Dr. Alex Bekker, M.D., Ph.D., as our newly elected Treasurer–Secretary.

Dr. Bekker is Professor and Chair of Anesthesiology at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, Chief of Service at University Hospital, and Chair of the Operating Room Committee. In these roles, he oversees strategic planning, financial management, faculty development, and complex clinical operations.

With deep expertise in the profession and a strong commitment to strengthening NJSSA’s organizational effectiveness, Dr. Bekker will lead through service and help ensure our Society remains proactive, engaged, and influential in shaping the future of anesthesiology in New Jersey.

NJSSA is honored to welcome Dr. Maggie M. Ho, DO, FASA as our newly elected Vice President.

Dr. Ho currently serves as Chairperson of the Anesthesiology Department at Ocean University Medical Center and as Clinical Director of Anesthesiology for Physician’s Practice Enhancement, LLC. With more than 30 years of experience in anesthesiology and healthcare leadership, she brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to this role.

As Vice President of NJSSA, Dr. Ho will focus on advancing our shared commitment to advocating for physician anesthesiologists and their patients, while continuing to uplift and strengthen the broader anesthesia community.

NJSSA looks forward to continuing our mission and advancing our work under Dr. Ho’s leadership as Vice President.

NJSSA is proud to welcome Dr. Walter Lapicki, FASA, as the newly elected president of NJSSA!

Dr. Lapicki currently serves as the Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Anesthesiology and Director of Advanced Pain Management at Hunterdon Medical Center, where he has dedicated more than 35 years to advancing patient care.

As president, Dr. Lapicki will continue NJSSA’s and ASA’s strong advocacy efforts to ensure that all patients receive the safest care led by Physician Anesthesiologists, while upholding the well‑being, professional integrity, and practice standards of New Jersey physicians.

NJSSA is honored to welcome Dr. Lapicki as our president and looks forward to continuing our advocacy and advancing the field of anesthesiology across New Jersey.

During the NJSSA Annual Meeting, New Jersey residents delivered outstanding presentations and led medical students through an insightful airway workshop. Thank you to all who participated!

Congratulations to Colton Spencer, DO (HMH Jersey Shore University Medical Center), for receiving the Most Medically‑Challenging Case Award for his work on anesthetic management in TAVR for a high‑risk patient on ECMO.

Congratulations as well to Nivetha Srinivasan, MD (Rutgers New Jersey Medical School), for earning the Best Research Case Award for her study on the pilot implementation of Programmed Intermittent Epidural Bolus (PIEB) in a Newark laboring population.
