The incidence of Plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome) has drastically increased since the Back to Sleep campaign began in 1994. Today, research shows that more than 46% of infants will develop Plagiocephaly by 2 months of age! Many parents are not aware that up to 90% can be treated conservatively, without a helmet, by a pediatric physical therapist, when treatment starts EARLY (by 7-8 weeks). This percentage drops quite a bit as baby nears the 5-6 month mark. If you, or parents you know, have concerns about a flat spot or asymmetry of their baby's head or neck, let me know. I want to help you spot TORTICOLLIS early!

Doe Baby turn / look to the same direction alot?
Does Baby consistently tilt his/her head to one side?
If you're breastfeeding, does Baby have difficulties on ONE side?

Look at pictures! They are really good at capturing side preferences and asymmetries in our Babies!

I am currently practicing in West Omaha, but my goal is to expand into Council Bluffs and the surrounding towns, as there are not a lot of options for pediatric physical therapy in this area. Almost 50% of infants have flat spots on their heads by TWO months of age! Helmets can fix this, but so can physical therapy, if it's started early!

Hi. I’m Dr. Lisa Nielsen-White, a pediatric physical therapist who specializes in head shape, torticollis, asymmetries, tension, tongue ties, and milestones. All of these can impact movement, which is key to every child's learning and interaction with his/her environment. Is Baby's head looking not quite round? Don't wait and see what happens, I can help now! An infant under 4 months old with mild to moderate plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome) can achieve a round head shape with physical therapy activities and education. As Baby becomes more mobile, it's more difficult to reshape the head this way, and a helmet is needed.
