A powerful reminder that early detection saves lives!
This cancer was discovered during a routine CT scan - initially for vascular concerns - which led to further evaluation and referral to a urologist
🧠 What to Know About Bladder Cancer & Screening:
Key symptoms: Blood in urine (visible or microscopic), frequent urination, painful urination, or lower back pain - especially in men and smokers
Risk factors: Smoking, exposure to workplace chemicals (e.g. dyes, rubber), long-term catheter use, aging, or bladder congenital issues
Early detection is critical: Localized bladder cancer has a five‑year survival rate of up to 97%, but prognosis worsens significantly if it spreads
🏥 Screening & Evaluation:
For individuals with symptoms (e.g. blood in urine), physicians may order:
-CT scan for structural imaging,
-Urine cytology to check for abnormal bladder cells,
-Cystoscopy: endoscopic exam of the bladder lining.
High-risk individuals (smokers, occupational exposures) may benefit from earlier evaluation and monitoring.
