One month left of orientation 😳😬🥲

Like what lol… how is my orientation done in one month??? I’m a baby baby baby nurse and I love having a preceptor hahah.

But a lil work update: I’m loving the ER! I’m getting wayyyy more comfortable with assessments and work-ups, IVs, etc etc. Getting more familiar with the people on the unit, the nurses, physicians, clerks, pcas!!! Still working on getting over pre-report nerves, and taking on my break partners full patient assignment. A work in progress though 🤗

Let me know if you want a tips for new grads (from a new grad) type of post! 🫶🏻

What to do when you FAIL an exam in nursing school

✏️ Realize that not passing a test does not mean you’re a failure or that you’ll fail the course.

✏️ Schedule a meeting with your professor. Most programs allow students to be able to review their exam. If you can figure out if there’s a type of question that you continually got wrong. Ask your professor if they have any specific tips on how you can do better for the next exam!!

✏️ Try a new study plan! Figure out how you learn best… it might be flashcards, concept maps, PowerPoint slides, etc.,
Also realize what works for others, may not work for you

✏️ Find a tutor or study group! Sometimes having someone explain a topic to you, makes all the difference

✏️ STUDY SMARTER 😎
Don’t waste time, by reading every word in the textbook!! Instead focus more on where your professor emphasizes during class. I would utilize the textbook as a resource, to supplement information that the PowerPoint didn’t go in detail in

Lastly take this opportunity to grow and push yourself to reach your goals 💓

I hope this helps out any students out there!!

NCLEX STUDY PLAN 📚💻

CONTENT:
I reviewed my old powerpoints/notes
I watched .com_ and
I created flashcards on a key ring of important labs
MARK K: I ONLY UTILIZED THE LAST LECTURE (I wasn’t a big fan of his content and did not want to overwhelm myself with too many resources)

QUESTION BANK:
I started off using Uworld (which was great) but after hearing that the archer offers more vague questions similar to NCLEX, I made the decision to switch
I also utilized the mobile app and answered questions on the go!
I set a goal of completing 75-100 questions daily and reading each rationale
A week before my exam I took a CAT exam to see where my weak areas were and adjusted my focus the week before

ORGANIZATION:
I divided my binder into 2 sections: CONTENT & RATIONALES
This kept me sane and the content structured
If there was a certain topic I continued to get wrong, I would go back into my notes section and add more notes!! This 100% helped me connect the dots of all the material

CALENDER:
I did not utilize a study calendar and decided to study based off where I felt I needed more practice..

THE HOLY GRAIL OF WHAT HELPED ME: THE SAUNDERS BOOK
I know this huge textbook can be overwhelming but when needing more information quickly this book was everything!!!!

I’ll be sharing specific tips on a later post, this was just how I studied and successfully passed!!!! Also I am aware that many people say to limit resources but this is what worked best for me

How to decide which nursing specialty is right for you 💉

🩺 Think of what you enjoy or could see yourself thriving in
Enjoy teaching…. perhaps postpartum 🤱
Enjoy fast pace environments… perhaps ED🚨
Fantastic organizing skills… perhaps ICU

🩺 Immerse yourself in different clinical experiences! Apply for float pool tech positions, ask to shadow a department, go into each clinical with an open mind

🩺 When you’re in different experiences ask yourself: could I see myself doing this? Ask the nurses on the unit, what do they like about their job.

🩺 Choose a specialty where you feel called to be in!

I choose pediatrics because I feel that I was meant to be a pediatric nurse!! But fun fact I did not enjoy peds rotation and if that was only exposure to pediatrics, I don’t think I would currently be a pediatric nurse 😳 Super grateful that my job as a peds CNA has made me realized my true calling!!

Sidenote: My favorite rotation by far was maternity!! So who knows I might find myself as an L&D in the future 😂😂

Anyone else have a clinical experience that made them realize where they’d like to work or not work 😅

i love being a D O G M O M 🐾

~

meet my furry friend, Wishbone! not only is he my doggo but he’s also a certified Emotional Support Animal and a certified Service Animal for my anxiety. moving across the country w/o my friends or family wasn’t easy… surviving grad/nursing school isn’t easy… life ain’t easy! but you know what - having him makes the hard things sooo much better :)

~

who else has a furry companion to go home to after a long day at clincial or work? they deserve a highlight 🥺
