Meet Dr. Sarah Elswick ✨📸

Combining science, art and technology, Dr. Elswick’s passion for helping people is the driving force behind her dedication to her patients. Having devoted her studies and professional training to the fields of biology, medicine, healthcare management, general surgery and plastic surgery, Dr.
Elswick’s elite education, certifications, specialized training and research repertoire are vast.
She originally began studying aerospace engineering and landed a role at NASA. Though an incredible experience, Dr.
Elswick quickly learned that she wanted to dedicate her career and her life to working with and helping people.
Medicine was a natural fit.
She realized her desire to pursue plastic surgery while working in the Plastic Surgery Department at The Ohio State University. There, she saw the results of patients who had undergone breast reconstruction atter mastectomy and knew she wanted to be part of restoring the lives and confidence of patients, not only when it comes to breast reconstruction, but on every area of the body regardless of patient age and gender.

Panniculectomy
This is a patient in her 50’s who had a lot of excess skin in her abdomen after massive weight loss (nearly 40 pounds) through diet and exercise and weight loss medications. She had symptoms from the extra skin, including rashes and moisture under the skin folds. She underwent a panniculectomy. A total of 1.9 pounds was removed. The width of the skin excision was 13.7 cm. A panniculectomy is very different from a tummy tuck, which also includes removal of about twice as much skin, muscle repair, and liposuction. However, insurance will often cover a panniculectomy if patient has a history of massive weight loss and symptoms from the overhanding skin whereas they do not cover a tummy tuck.

Breast Reconstruction: Direct to Implant
This is a patient in her 40’s who was diagnosed with right breast cancer. She was a DD cup prior to her reconstruction and wanted slightly smaller breasts after surgery. She underwent bilateral skin sparing mastectomies with direct-to-implant reconstruction. She has Sientra smooth round moderate 700 cc silicone implants with mesh (GalaFLEX on the lower aspect and acellular dermal matrix on top) placed above the muscle (pre-pectoral). The incision used for her mastectomy keeps the scar hidden under the breast (where an underwire from a bra would be located) so it cannot be seen from the front.

In honor of today being National Reconstruction Day 🩷🎗️

This is before/after of a Bilateral Goldilocks Breast Reconstruction surgery.

This is a patient in her 60’s who was diagnosed with right breast cancer. She was an H cup prior to her reconstruction and wanted much smaller breasts after surgery. She underwent bilateral skin sparing mastectomies with simultaneous Goldilocks reconstruction. A Goldilocks reconstruction utilizes the patient’s own skin and fat left over after the mastectomy and sometimes even the excess tissue beside the breast or in the back for reconstruction. In this case, the patient wished to limit the contour irregularity from her mastectomy and have a small breast if possible. Additional volume can be added down the road with fat grafting if desired.
