Join us for our next meeting on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pioneer Museum of Alabama. We are honored to welcome Dr. Kathryn L. Beasley, who will speak about the Cooperative Extension Service home demonstration programs from 1914 to 1929. She recently authored a book entitled *The Proof Is in the Dough*. We are excited to announce the release of our latest publication, *Crime and Punishment*. This volume presents newspaper accounts of crimes in Pike County from 1872 to 1963. Whenever possible, we have followed each case through to its trial.

We are pleased to announce that Orion Baptist Church Cemetery has been added to the Alabama Historic Cemetery Register! The Alabama Historical Commission considers historic cemeteries particularly worthy of preservation and appreciation. The Alabama Historic Cemetery Register is a prestigious listing of historic cemeteries in Alabama.
There are currently 31 cemeteries in Pike County listed on the Alabama Historic Cemetery Register.
Orion was settled about 1810, about 9 years before Alabama became a state. By 1830, wealthy planters began arriving, and Orion was a booming town.
The Orion Baptist Church was organized in 1828, and the first known burial was Sophronia P. Anderson in 1834.

We are pleased to announce that Old Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery has been added to the Alabama Historic Cemetery Register! The Alabama Historical Commission considers historic cemeteries particularly worthy of preservation and appreciation. The Alabama Historic Cemetery Register is a prestigious listing of historic cemeteries in Alabama. There are currently 31 cemeteries in Pike County listed on the Alabama Historic Cemetery Register.
The Old Lebanon Baptist Church was started in 1850 by Dr. A. N. Worthy and J. T. S. Park.
The first known burial in the cemetery is that of James Youngblood in 1855.

This is just a reminder that our April meeting will be held on Sunday, April 27, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pioneer Museum of Alalbama. We are excited to have Bart Snyder as our guest speaker. Bart will discuss the Tick Hill Fox Hunting Club. The meeting is open to the public.

CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER!!

The Beulah Cemetery Foundation has planned a clean-up day at Beulah Cemetery this Saturday, March 15, at 9:00. David Dewberry has done an amazing job repairing and cleaning the markers. There are limbs and other debris that need to be removed. We will also be raking leaves to spruce up the landscape. I hope you can help us this Saturday.

We are having a work day at Beulah Cemetery on Saturday, March 18 beginning at 9:00. We were awarded a grant from the Alabama Historical Commission to clean and repair broken markers at the cemetery. It is now time for us to clean up the cemetery (limbs, debris) and clean the markers. I hope you can attend and help us get this cemetery back into good shape.
