According to the National Safety Council, cause more than 19,000 fires each year, and account for more than 25% of ER visits for fireworks injuries - nearly half of those were children under 5!

It's best to leave the fireworks shows to the pros, but if you're determined to put on your own, we have some safety tips for you.

MEET DR. ALOSH!
Dr. Hassan Alosh, MD is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic joint reconstruction specialist. A Washington, DC metro area native, he attended medical school at Johns Hopkins University and residency at the University of Pennsylvania.

Here at UnaSource our surgical site infection (SSI) rate is only 0.16% - arguably a very low percentage, but we still do everything we can to get that number down to zero. Surgical site infection risk involves not just what we do here at the Center, but what our patients do at home, too. Here at UnaSource Surgery Center we pride ourselves on our low infection rate (only 0.16% of admissions in 2024), however, surgical site infection (SSI) is still a risk no matter where you have surgery. Read on to learn more about surgical site infections and what you can do to lessen your risk.

This Nurse's Week we want to acknowledge one of our own for her dedication to excellence. USC Infection Control and Safety Officer, Ruthann is now a Certified Ambulatory Infection Preventionist (CAIP)!

Ruthann is a registered nurse with a critical role here at USC as Infection Preventionist and Safety Officer. She is responsible for regularly monitoring the standards of care related to infection and safety, updating policies and procedures accordingly, and training the USC team. Her role ensures UnaSource Surgery Center is a clean and safe environment for our patients and team members, and she does an exceptional job at it!

The CAIP certification designates Ruthann as an expert in her role and we couldn't be more proud of her accomplishment! Congrats, Ruthann!
