Lying down after eating can make acid reflux worse because gravity helps keep stomach acid in your stomach. When you lie down, especially right after a meal, stomach acid can more easily flow back up into your esophagus, leading to heartburn and discomfort.

Staying upright for at least 2-3 hours after eating helps your stomach digest food properly and reduces the chance of acid reflux. If you need to rest, try propping yourself up with pillows to keep your upper body elevated.
