Help us create a sensory-friendly experience for our community! We will be partnering with some other local businesses to provide a sensory-friendly trunk-or-treat for the kiddos who enjoy a more chill vibe.
If you would like to help, we need items to hand out, and also items to create some fun sensory bins for kids to dig their hands into.
Here's our wish list, but feel free to purchase other similar items you find! You can either have them shipped to our office or drop them off at our office, located at 131 Main St. in Troy.
It may seem early, but we're trying to stay ahead of the game since life can get crazy quickly!
So if you're in any position to help, take a look at our wish list!
*more details to follow soon about the sensory-friendly trunk-or-treat details!

Happy birthday to our receptionist, Lilly! If you've seen her joyful presence when you walk into our office, then you know why we love her. She is pure love and light and we hope she has the happiest birthday ever!
And if you're in the office this week, be sure to wish her a happy birthday!

PS If you didn't know, Lilly also happens to be my baby girl! So for fun, I'll share a few pics of her when she was younger. ☺️

Watching the new Superman movie today (for the second time) and both times, this speech that Superman gave to Lex Luthor, really stood out to me.

“I’m as human as anyone. I love, I get scared. I wake up every morning and despite not knowing what to do, I put one foot in front of the other and I try to make the best choices I can. I screw up all the time, but that is being human and that’s my greatest strength.”

Happy birthday to our newest therapist, Elizabeth! I may not know her really well yet, but to know her is to love her. She is always full of joy and loves everyone who enters her office and meets them with empathy and compassion.
Help me wish her a happy birthday, and if you really want to make this Harry Potter loving girls day, comment which Hogwarts house would you be in.

We decided to add some "merch" at the office. Take a look at some of the first we've made. We will offer a variety of sayings, like "therapy is cool", "breathe", and my personal favorite is "WWAS" OR "WWTS", which means "what would Alex/Tricia say?" for that constant reminder to use your tools and make good choices, even when we're not around to help guide you!

BREATHE
WWAS (what would Alex say)
WWTS (what would Tricia say)
PREFECTION (perfection, purposely spelled wrong to be funny and ironic) 😂

By now, you've likely heard about the "kiss cam" at the Coldplay concert. If you haven't, here's the short version:
At the Coldplay concert, the "kiss cam" showed a man standing behind a woman, holding her and they were swaying to the music. When the camera showed their faces, they immediately covered their faces and tried to hide their identities, allegedly because they were having an affair.
And while I have seen a lot of joking about this, my heart broke when I saw it - not for the couple shown, but for the people who will likely never forget the moment they found out their partner was having an affair.
Because I work with a lot of couples, I know all too well what the aftermath may look like. There will either be a lot of restorative work happening to salvage their marriage, or there will be a whole lot of paperwork to navigate the ugly road to divorce. Either way, the woman who just found out her husband is having an affair will be the one to take the biggest hit. Her life will never be the same, and she will have the memories of this humiliating moment for the rest of her life. And I don't know if they have children, but if they do, imagine the embarrassment of these poor kids - imagine having to go back to school in August and having everyone know that your dad cheated on your mom and got blasted everywhere in the media.
So before laughing about this horrific moment, show some compassion for the people not shown on the camera who are the most impacted.
And for goodness sake, if your marriage is so awful that you are tempted to look outside of your marriage, do the right thing and either go to counseling, or walk away from the marriage. Because nobody should have to deal with the devastating blow of finding out your partner is cheating on you.

I've had several people send this to me. Not sure if they're sending it because I'm a therapist or because I, myself, have anxiety. Regardless, it's pretty spot on. 😂
