Linda underwent robotic repair of a large paraesophageal hernia which has given her complete relief of previous symptoms. Many people have small hiatal hernias which over time can enlarge. Eventually, a large portion of the stomach is caught above the diaphragm in the chest causing heartburn, food getting stuck and even bleeding. Many times their condition is just tolerated during these years or ignored. Robotic repair allows for improved surgical outcomes for this condition and rapid recovery. Congrats to Linda.

Michigan surgeons meet at the national American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery conference recently in San Antonio. Michigan is a leader in this discipline forming the well know Michigan Bariatric Surgery Collaborative some 20 years ago.

Gary had robotic right inguinal hernia repair just 10 days ago, had no pain, and feels so well that he wants to resume his fitness routine which includes 50 push-ups (done all at once) 100 ab rolls, and 10 minutes of stair climber estimate 20 flights. He always takes the stairs in any building. At 74 years young, his dedication and ability are impressive and an inspiration. Way to go Gary !

Dedicated to helping patients suffering from morbid obesity and curing diabetes, sleep apnea. This year's theme "no one left behind" including the reality that besides surgery, GLP1 therapy is becoming an increasingly important part of treatment.

Alayna is smiling because she no longer suffers from daily nausea and abdominal pain from a hyperactive gallbladder. Two weeks since robotic cholecystectomy she is completely transformed. All her symptoms resolved. Biliary dyskinesia is a diagnosis that is real and patient selection is key to a good outcome. Her pre operative testing showed a hyperactive gallbladder but many surgeons are reluctant to act as there is some controversy in the medical field. But no controversy with this result. Congrats to Alayna on living her best life.

Sherry is two weeks from successful ventral hernia repair. She noticed my paintings in the office and became inspired to resume her passion for creating art as well and presented this newly finished piece as a gift of gratitude for her surgery and her new found motivation. As an artist, I understand that giving a painting to an individual is a very meaningful form of appreciation and I am touched by her gracious gesture. She wanted one of my paintings on the wall in the photo as well. Thank you Sherry.

Janet's weight loss journey included Gastric band done several years ago which like many bands failed to produce long term success. It was removed in 2016 and she saw me 3 years later wanting a sleeve. We talked over her situation and eventually she chose RNY Gastric Bypass done last year with dazzling success. She is so pleased with her decision. Many former band patients are reluctant to go with Gastric Bypass but in reality, it's their best choice. Congrats to you Janet for having the courage to believe. .

This year's graduation dinner with five well trained general surgeons who completed six rigorous years of training that included the pandemic their intern year. A great group of young professionals. It's really gratifying to be a part of our program for so many years and help shape our future surgeons. Best of luck to the class of 2025.
