Myth vs Fact

🚫 Myth: People with developmental disabilities can’t live independently.
✅ Fact: With the right supports, many people live full, independent lives—working, volunteering, and leading in their communities.

Belief changes everything.

🧦 Get ready to rock your socks! 🧦

Crazy Sock Day is coming on March 21 for World Down Syndrome Day… and we can’t wait to see YOUR socks!

Why socks? Because chromosomes look like little socks under a microscope—and people with Down syndrome have an extra one. 💛💙

Wearing bold, colorful, mismatched socks helps start conversations and celebrate the beauty of difference.

Let’s go even bigger this year!

🎬 Community Opportunities Movie Night

Join us for a special screening of the powerful documentary “Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution.”

This award-winning film tells the story of a group of teenagers with disabilities whose experiences at a summer camp in the 1970s helped spark a movement that changed disability rights in America. It’s inspiring, honest, and an important piece of history.

📅 March 24
🕓 4:30 PM
🍿 Free popcorn provided

Please note:
• This film is rated R and contains some language, sexual references, and profanity.
• Direct support will not be provided at this event.

If you’d like to attend, please RSVP to Sonya@commopps.org

Come watch, learn, and reflect on a movement that helped shape the disability rights we know today.

When Suzanne thought about her son Cauy’s future, she wasn’t sure what to imagine. The road to employment wasn’t always smooth — but the destination has been worth every turn.

Today, during Developmental Disability Awareness Month, we’re proud to share Cauy’s story.

At the Elsberry R-2 School District, Cauy found more than a job. He found belonging. A team that values him for exactly who he is — hardworking and full of heart.

From tackling two jobs (yes, he even works at the golf course in the summer!) to brightening every room he enters, Cauy shows us what inclusion looks like in action — and what happens when people are given the opportunity to shine.

Because meaningful work doesn’t just build a paycheck — it builds confidence, independence, and community.

💬 Let’s show Cauy some love! Drop a comment, a 👏, or a 💙 to celebrate him and all the individuals proving every day that everyone belongs in the workplace and in our communities.

🎥 Watch their story — it’s one you won’t forget. National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities
