I rarely post on this page anymore but this is important. Please recognize that poverty is one of the most import sources of illness and disability in childhood. Please review the newly passed federal budget in that light.

Second, please spend a bit of time at least reading the abstract from this article in the Lancet. The US has saved an incredible amount of live across the world. We now are poised to do the opposite with 14 million deaths coming by 2030 from the discontinuation of USAID funds. Respond however you can.

OUR APPROACH TO IMMUNIZATIONS
Our approach to caregiving is to share important decisions with caregivers with a strong element of trust. One area that we do have expectations of trust is in our recommendations concerning immunizations. We have strong confidence in the science and the extensive experience concerning the critical personal and public health benefits of this protection. At CapitalCare Pediatrics Troy, we believe that vaccinating our children and young adults may be the single most important health-promoting intervention that we perform. We firmly believe in the safety of our vaccines and support the appropriate administration of vaccines in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and American Academy of Pediatrics schedule.

We understand that some caregivers may have uncertainty or distrust of the process of immunization, and we are happy to review our expertise in this area. The recent increase in vaccine-preventable illness poses a risk to ALL children. We know the very serious illness and/or complications that can occur from diseases like measles, mumps, polio, German measles, whooping cough, meningitis, pneumonia and so many others. The vaccines we give, safely and effectively PREVENT those terrible diseases. For us it would be the equivalent of not using child safety seats in your car! It’s just too hazardous. In addition, we care for very young babies and children with chronic illnesses who are even more susceptible to the serious complications of infection. Knowing that these frail children can be exposed in the community at any time from unvaccinated children is a risk that we must help reduce by vaccination. For these reasons we have the following vaccine policy.

• We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics Immunization Guidelines and expect caregivers to generally accept those recommendations and schedule, barring very specific medical exemptions.
• We will need to have reasonable assurances from caregivers who have a child with a significant delay in immunizations that we can work out a process to achieve full immunization status.
• We do not give non-medical exemptions for immunizations.
• Please understand that significant or ongoing delays in immunization may require caregivers to seek care elsewhere.

We are dedicated to taking care of children and are eager to form a healthcare team with families. However, we cannot let lack of immunizations be an obstacle to the welfare of all children. We would hope that care givers can place their trust in us for this very important part of their child’s health protection.

Our Story

We provide great care to children and families in an award winning practice. At CapitalCare Pediatrics Troy we have great pediatricians, Physician Assistants, pediatric nurses, mental health providers and enthusiastic and caring support staff. Beside preventative visits, we have specialized support in nutrition and weight management, lactation services, and mental health. We are passionate about literacy and participate in Reach Out and Read where children between 6 months and 5 years are given books at their well visits. We have extensive experience in working with children with complex or special developmental needs and several of our pediatricians are specialists in developmental pediatrics. We provide our families with specific skills in helping their children be emotionally healthy and resilient and look to prevent childhood adverse experiences. Finally, we laugh and lot and really enjoy what we do.

We are located on Hoosick Street in Troy, minutes from routes 787 and 7.
