❗️Government shutdown update and action❗️

As of today, October 24, federal nutrition programs in New York remain open, despite the government shutdown.

➡️WIC, school meals, Summer EBT, and CACFP are currently operating normally.

➡️SNAP also remains open at this time. October benefits are being issued, and families can still apply for SNAP and use their benefits.

➡️November SNAP benefits may be delayed if the shutdown continues into next month.

📢Take action today. Contact your Members of Congress and urge them to work with USDA to ensure November SNAP benefits are issued without delay. Nearly three million New Yorkers—mostly children, seniors, and people with disabilities—rely on SNAP to put food on the table. Any disruption to federal nutrition programs will have a devastating impact on food security in New York and nationwide.

Although exposure to lead in the United States may have decreased in recent decades, many people are still affected. Fortunately, eating nutritious foods may help reduce the absorption of lead by the body.
