To My Dear Patients
Hello from quarantine! It has been almost a full month since I have seen you, and I wanted to tell you all that I miss you and am thinking of you in these difficult times we are enduring. I hope this letter finds you well, and that you are safe and comfortable. My family and I have all remained healthy thus far-- my kids are doing their school work virtually, but what is really interesting to watch is how their boredom stimulates curiosity, and the interesting places it has led them. My daughter Sophie has a copy of “The Writer’s Market” for 2020, and is reading, writing, and submitting everything from poetry to short fiction to research articles. Ryder, my ten year old son, has taught himself morse code, and how to tie a variety of necktie knots that I frankly was completely ignorant of until now. I have been lucky enough to continue teaching for the acupuncture college virtually for the time being, and have gotten extremely familiar with video technology on the computer. That said, I am thinking of you, and of your care-- many of you were in the midst of getting good results from treatment, and I wonder how you are doing? Please feel free to reach out to me via my cell phone, 607-592-3943, or by email at info@taohealingarts.org just to catch up.
I also wanted to let you know that I have spent the past month ironing out the process, but I am pleased to now offer a brand new way to help you with your health! I have been working on the treatment processes I will use, and the technology I will use to offer them, and have come up with three different options to maintain your care with traditional Chinese medicine:
Virtual Chinese Medicine Treatments:
Virtual sessions for all conditions. While acupuncture and manual therapies are our most common tool, there are several modalities of Chinese medicine that are equally effective. In a virtual treatment, I set you up with an extremely simple to follow, and privacy protected video call. All you need is a computer, smartphone, or iPad. From there, we will conduct an intake and assess your condition, and I will provide you with a comprehensive home treatment plan that consists of:
Corrective movement
External medicines shipped to your door
Qigong exercises to rebalance your system
Guided acupressure, and self massage
While it may seem difficult to replace a practitioner’s touch, I can assure you that home care regimens are equally effective, and often BETTER than having external therapies done for you and to you. I support you through the process the entire way, with evidence based practice and guidance. Telemedicine and email options are also available.
Chinese Telemedicine:
Herbal Consults for all conditions. Using a local herbal pharmacy that is open and utilizing safe distancing practices, I will assess your condition, and prescribe you herbal medicine for your condition. Chinese Herbal Medicine is safe, highly nuanced, and tailored to your specific condition as well as your constitution. Herbs are evidence based, and come from an enormous base of clinical practice at a hospital setting. We can treat everything from the common cold to advanced autoimmune conditions, from low back pain to migraines, and we are able to do so safely and precisely. Chinese medicine practitioners fully understand how to avoid contraindications with existing medicine you may be taking, and how to avoid adverse reactions.
Private Virtual Qi Gong Instruction:
Qi gong is a Chinese movement practice, in some ways similar to yoga, where we gently twist, stretch, flex, and extend every part of the body in coordination with deep breathing and a focused mind. I have spent the past twenty years of my life immersed in the practice of qi gong, tai chi, and ba gua zhang, and have taught it professionally at the master’s degree level since 2007, and have trained with several of the finest practitioners in the world. I am a certified instructor with Internal Arts International, and am excited to take a small number of private students. Anyone can benefit from practicing qigong in these difficult times, no matter what age or level of health. Qi gong systems offered include:
Ba Duan Jin: Also known as the Eight Pieces of Brocade, this is a full body exercise system that boosts immunity, and strengthens and stretches every part of your body.
Five Element Qi Gong: Specifically designed to strengthen you organs, gentle and profound meditative movement that boosts your energy and feels fantastic.
Heavenly Stem Spinal Qi Gong: A workout for your spine that introduces advanced movement practice for optimal performance.
For serious practitioners, I offer private instruction in Ba Gua Zhang-- Eight Diagram Palm: a Chinese martial art similar to taijiquan (Tai Chi). For more information, contact me and we can see if this is a good fit for you.
I am currently opening booking for the above options-- visit taohealingarts.org (http://www.taohealingarts.org) and click “book now” to reserve your appointment, or call or text 607-592-3943. I look forward to working with you again!
