Patient Stories Needed: Association for Respiratory Care - AARC
This August, while members of Congress are home in their districts, the AARC is teaming up with the COPD Foundation and the Alpha-1 Foundation to launch a powerful new advocacy effort: pairing patient advocates with respiratory therapists for in-district meetings to share personal stories and professional insight about the importance of supplemental oxygen access. Download the August Recess Toolkit for tips on how to reach out to your local representatives.

Congratulations to Anna Ceccarelli from Yale New Haven Hospital on receiving the 2025 PHIL Award! Anna has been working as a respiratory therapist at Yale for 45 years, dedicating countless hours to the Pulmonary Progressive Care Team on East Pavillion 10-7.

Anna’s nomination states: It is such an honor to be a part of Anna's legacy and witness her dedication to helping patients as a respiratory therapist. While Anna stays out of the spotlight and would rather hear about others wonderful attributes Anna has been instrumental in the focus of improving the quality of care in the pulmonary and medicine patients.
Anna has been actively involved in patient care for the pulmonary population and has helped the unit to increase the number of patients that have been successfully decannulated. Notably, Anna is the lead respiratory therapist on the unit, and our provider teams seeks her clinical expertise prior to developing the pulmonary plans for patients that are decannulation candidates. Anna has successfully utilized her assessment skills to determine patients' readiness for patients to be decannulated. Anna performs capping trails, tracks and monitors progress and provides patient education every step of the way. It is because of Anna's contributions that patients have found their voices again.

Congratulations Anna and thank you for your dedication and commitment to patient care! 🎉

Urgent Notice: Support Needed to Prevent Closure of Goodwin University's Respiratory Program
Goodwin University has announced that its Respiratory Program will close its doors after the next graduating class. We are calling on all fellow Respiratory Therapists (RTs) to help prevent this from happening. The workload has drastically increased, and schools are struggling to keep up. Closing a program in our state will exacerbate the shortage we already face in our profession and increase burnout for those already practicing.
Please join us in preventing the closure of this vital program! You can help by writing to Senator Anwar and copying Mark Scheinberg, President of Goodwin College. A suggested template and e mail links to both these individuals can be found on the CTSRC webpage (www.ctsrc.org)
