“All too often, we become paralyzed by the belief that there is nothing to hope for—that the injury will never improve, that the diagnosis is a one-way street, that the political situation is beyond repair, that the worst case scenarios of the climate crisis are an inevitability.
It becomes easy to blame and regret, and to think that we have no power and no reason to act. Apathy only serves to protect against what we fear will lead to heartbreak.
In its wake, we forget the essential, beautiful piece of ourselves that knows the only way through is forward.
I’m discovering that there is a space that lies between blind hope and hyper-vigilant hopelessness.
This space is deep enough to allow for us to feel our fear, doubt and despair without being consumed by it, and it’s wide enough to also hold our idealism, our most heartfelt aspirations for peace and happiness.
This flavor of hope, let’s call it “grounded hope,” is not seeing things unrealistically, but rather seeing things as they are, including the truth of suffering, both its very real existence and our very real capacity to transform it.”
~ excerpt from Between Hope and Hopelessness by Court Morgan
Court and her partner Laura Williamson are yoga and dharma
teachers who live in Providence, RI. Court’s from the PNW and owned a
studio in Walla Walla, Washington until 2019 when they decided to move back to the east coast, where Laura grew up.
Both of them came to yoga in search of freedom from chronic pain and a lot of mental angst, and they’ve found a fundamental shift in the ways they move through the world both mentally and physically.
Their retreat—The Heart of Freedom and Ease—is our final program of the 2024 season, and there are a few spots still available.
