🌟 Staff Spotlight: Meet Our Executive Director! 🌟

At Avamere at Newberg, we’re proud to have a leader who leads with heart, humor, and a whole lot of hustle. Meet our Executive Director, Kelcie Ma**er, a woman on a mission to change the face of senior living!

💬 Her ‘why’?
"My grandmother was mistreated at a senior living community and my first thought was, 'Not on my watch!'" That moment sparked a passion that continues to fuel her every day.

👥 What she loves about her role:
"My team! It’s a privilege to lead such an incredible group."

Her leadership style is all about solution-based thinking, active listening, and team collaboration.

"My team members are the experts in their departments. Sometimes they just need an ear, and I’m always ready to jump in and tackle challenges with them."

🏡 What makes Avamere Newberg special?
"We offer home-cooked meals, a warm and welcoming environment, and a true sense of family that’s hard to match."

🎉 Proudest moment so far?
A fantastic re-licensure state survey, and growing a positive, supportive culture along the way.

🧡 Her biggest hope for our residents?
"That they feel welcome the moment they walk through our doors. We meet them where they are, with care, support, and heart."

🎣 Now for the fun stuff…
Did you know she once won a fishing boat in a raffle? (Yes, she still has it and her and her husband use it often!) Her go-to fuel? ENERGY DRINKS, not coffee or tea.

She’s a morning person AND a night owl, especially when it comes to binge-watching her favorite shows (with her dogs, of course).

When asked where she’d go if she could travel anywhere, the answer was instant: Disneyland, because she LOVES Stitch! 🐾✨ Her ultimate joy comes from family time with her husband, kids, dogs, and kitty. 🧡

"I am lucky to have several q***r seniors at my community," shared Maddie Almodovar, Executive Director of Avamere at Sandy. "I myself am a le***an, and I have many staff who identify as part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community as well. It was really important for us this year, especially since it was Sandy's first Pride, to put our money where our mouth is."

Portland Pride returns this weekend, with a downtown parade expected to draw tens of thousands. For LGBTQ+ seniors, the event provides visibility and support.
