A Succesful Treatment Story:

Gertrude: Keratoconjuntivitis

Gertrude, a rescue found as a stray in Georgia on October 9th, was in dire condition, with her eyes matted shut and her mouth emitting an odor of infection. Veterinarians feared for her vision and anticipated the loss of most of her teeth. Upon examination, she was diagnosed with keratoconjunctivitis and scheduled for dental surgery with Dr. Powell. The procedure was among the most challenging in her 17 years of practice. Post-surgery, Gertrude struggled to maintain her body temperature, but with dedicated care from her new owner and guidance from the staff, she transformed into a joyful, vibrant dog.

Following her surgery, the team at Dekalb Animal Hospital kept a close watch on her recovery, while her new family adhered to the veterinarians' instructions at home. Thanks to this combined effort, her vision has improved, and after losing all but four teeth, her oral health has significantly enhanced. Although Gertie is still in the healing process, her recovery has been remarkable. To prevent similar issues in pets, regular eye cleaning and annual veterinary check-ups, including dental assessments, are essential.

Happy National Practice Manager Appreciation week!

It is our pleasure to present our exceptional practice manager, Jonathan Garcia, who joined the team at Dekalb Animal Hospital in 2022. Hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana, Jonathan has a particular fondness for spicy seafood dishes. He resides in the Atlanta area with his husband, two children, and an array of beloved fur babies. Recently, he celebrated his 40th birthday on Halloween by taking the thrilling plunge of skydiving. His adventurous nature is truly inspiring, and for those who have visited Dekalb Animal Hospital, his dedication is evident in the immaculate environment and the beautiful plants and pond that enhance the hospital's exterior; he also takes extreme pride in the hospitals cleanliness. An interesting tidbit about Jonathan is his impressive collection of over 120 pairs of sneakers and more than 40 distinct fragrances of cologne. We thank Jonathan for the support, guidance and opportunities he's given us over the years and we can't wait for many more!

Looking for a great way to welcome in the fall? The East Atlanta Strut is a highly anticipated FREE community event in East Atlanta Village, featuring a parade, live music, and an array of artistic vendors!
