Professionally, this year I’ve been deeply focused on blood pressure—because I want every patient I serve to know their numbers and move toward their goals.

I’m especially grateful that the weekend before Christmas, I had the opportunity to take blood pressure at a community event centered on the instruction given in Habakkuk—a reminder to write the vision and make it plain. Women were encouraged to explore their vision through art and I was honored to support their health in that space.

Screening matters. Awareness matters. And when faith and health come together, it’s truly a gift. 🩺

Vitamin D dosing isn’t one-size-fits-all.
And most people are taking the wrong dose… without realizing it.

Vitamin D doesn’t float freely in your bloodstream — it dissolves into fat tissue. That means your body composition directly affects how much you need.

More body fat = more “storage space” = slower rise in blood levels. So two people taking the same dose can have totally different lab results.

Even at healthy levels, the body absorbs vitamin D more slowly. It takes steady, consistent dosing to keep moving upward.

This is why personalized dosing matters.
Check → Dose → Recheck.

Save this post if you take vitamin D daily 💊💚

Winter fatigue, low mood, more aches?
It might not be stress or seasonal affective disorder (SAD) — it might be low vitamin D ☀️

Melanated skin = less vitamin D production

Low D affects metabolism, mood, immunity, and blood pressure

And yes — vitamin D should be paired with K2 (MK-7)

This is physiology, not willpower.

This picture reflects what I’m grateful for.

👩🏾‍❤️‍💋‍👨🏽 Steven and I met 30 years ago as teenagers entering high school in New Orleans. Life has taken us through many chapters and adventures including travel to Ghana, West Africa this year.

👧🏽👦🏽My children and the metabolic health journey their very lives started for me.

💫The many miracles that made this trip possible. The people who helped, supported, and prayed with us along the way. The new family we now have.

🩺 For the community we’re building in this space. The chance to step away, reset my focus, and reconnect to purpose inspired my renewed drive to promote metabolic health.

Grateful for the journey. Grateful for the growth. Just grateful.

Let’s Break the Cycle.
From tradition ➡️ transformation.
Ending the cycle of diabetes in our families starts with one conversation.

This is an excerpt from a conversation, Dr. Emily and I had to discuss what really drives diabetes risk in our communities—and what families can do right now to change their health story.

Here’s your reminder that diabetes isn’t just genetic…
It’s cultural.
It’s environmental.
It’s emotional.
It’s the habits we pass down without even realizing it.

But cycles can be broken. ✊🏾

In this conversation we covered:
✨ Why family history matters more than ever
✨ How to bring up health at holiday gatherings (without being “that” family member)
✨ The holiday habits that protect blood sugar
✨ The labs + numbers that catch diabetes early
✨ A simple family challenge to start this season

If diabetes runs in your family, this is your nudge to pause, connect, and update your family’s health story this holiday season.

You can lead that shift.

👉🏾 Check out our full conversation on YouTube
👉🏾 Save this. Share it with your family
👉🏾 Comment: What’s ONE healthy habit you’re committing to this holiday?

Let’s break the cycle—together. 🫶🏾

Growing up, I heard accounts of my great grandparent’s struggles with diabetes and its complications. Diabetes has affected many of us in every generation of my family since. I started experiencing symptoms of insulin resistance in my early thirties. I do not have diabetes, and I work daily to keep it that way with every lifestyle decision I make to support my metabolic health.

This Diabetes Awareness Month, I encourage you visit your doctor and get your blood sugar checked, especially if you have a family history of diabetes. You can take action to achieve optimal blood sugar control.

Same Cancer. Unequal Care. 💔

Black women are diagnosed with breast cancer as often as white women — but are 40% more likely to die from it.

Why?

Because access to early detection, timely treatment, and follow-up care still isn’t equal.

Too many women face delayed diagnoses, cost barriers, or limited access to advanced therapies.

This isn’t just a health issue — it’s an equity issue.

And awareness alone won’t close the gap. Action will.

✨ Let’s change the narrative:
✔ Get screened early and regularly
✔ Know your family history
✔ Support community clinics and advocacy groups
✔ Push for equity in care — for every woman

🎀 Awareness → Action → Equity

10/26/2025

🎀 Breast Cancer Awareness Month isn’t just about pink ribbons—it’s also about shining a light on disparities.

👉🏾 Black women are:
* More likely to be diagnosed at later stages
* Less likely to have access to timely, advanced treatment
* Nearly 40% more likely to die from breast cancer compared to white women

These differences aren’t about biology alone—they reflect inequities in screening, care access, and systemic barriers.

✨ Awareness is the first step. Action is the next. Let’s push for equity in women’s health.

🔬 Vitamin D goes way beyond bone health.

It influences how breast cells grow, die, and respond to hormones.

✨ Mechanisms include:
* Slowing cell proliferation
* Reducing estrogen production (via aromatase)
* Blunting insulin/IGF-1 pathways
* Limiting angiogenesis and metastasis

💡 While clinical trials show mixed results, optimizing vitamin D levels (through sun, diet, or supplements when needed) is a smart part of whole-body, metabolic breast health.

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀

Most people know about mammograms, but did you know that metabolic health conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure can also increase breast cancer risk?

✔ Diabetes → ~23% higher risk
✔ Hypertension → ~15% higher risk (especially postmenopause)
✔ Diabetes also linked with worse breast cancer outcomes

It’s all connected: insulin resistance, inflammation, and lifestyle factors matter for BOTH cancer and cardiovascular health.

✨ Takeaway: Protect your metabolic health → protect your breast health.
