Lord Shani शनि (Saturn)
The often feared and maligned Shani is the graha/planet which brings our karmas to fruition, for better or worse. If we can tactfully accept the challenges that might (and must) come, we may also be rewarded greatly for our surrender and resoluteness. Saturday is the day ruled by Saturn and the best day to give obeisances. Saturn rules dark colors such as black, violet, and blue. Flying creatures such as birds (especially crows), vultures, and elephants. Inorganic matter, metal, and old materials. Vata dosha, west direction are both ruled by Saturn, and blue sapphire is the stone associated with this graha. To appease Saturn, spend Saturday in contemplation of its characteristics, read stories of Shani (the Greatness of Saturn by Robert Svoboda is an excellent choice), offer black sesame seeds or lentils, feed birds (especially crows), donate to the poor, or wear some type of blue color in your clothes. The simplest remedy is cleaning and organizing your house or performing any necessary manual labor on Saturdays. Om Sham Shanaiscaryaye Namah.
