50 & Fabulous: My Ayurvedic Skincare Routine 🎉

I just turned 50 and get asked all the time about my skincare routine as an Ayurvedic Doctor, so here it is! 🌟

Oil Cleanse: I wash my face with oil. It might sound strange, but oil cleansing has been around for centuries! Just apply oil to your face before a shower and use warm water to wipe it clean.

Check out the oil I use here, Kuumba Made: buff.ly/4dG7sK1

Link to the cleanser I mentioned, Youth to the People: https://buff.ly/3yASB4x

Exfoliate: My family has a timeless recipe with saffron, turmeric, mung bean, and chickpea flour. I use this once a week to clean and rejuvenate my skin.

Get it from my Esthetician Friend Julia here, Mumbai Miracle Mask: https://buff.ly/46J8gM0

Vitamin C: This brightens the skin. 5000 years ago in Ayurveda, we used Amla berry powder! I use this over-the-counter product occasionally.

Find it here, Hylunia: buff.ly/3AbNF6z

Sunscreen: Most sunscreens have a lot of additives that are bad for your skin and the environment. I’ve found a clean sunscreen that protects you from too much sun damage.

Eat Well: Avoid too many processed foods! The outer self reflects the inner self and vice versa 🍏🥗

Stay radiant and healthy! ✨

In Ayurveda, Desh, or the environment where food is grown and consumed, plays a vital role in its qualities and effects on your health.

This often-overlooked factor can significantly influence your well-being.

🌿Understanding the Impact of Desh🌿

✨Climate Influence: The climate in which food is grown affects its nutritional content, flavor, and medicinal properties. For example, fruits and vegetables grown in colder climates may have different qualities than those grown in tropical regions

✨Soil Quality: The soil where plants are cultivated is a vital factor in their nutritional value. Nutrient-rich soil provides essential minerals and vitamins that are absorbed by the plants, ultimately benefiting those who consume them

✨Seasonal Adaptation: Eating foods that are in season aligns with your body's natural rhythms and helps balance your doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha). Seasonal produce is often fresher, more flavorful, and more nutritious

Your personal habitat, including your local environment and ancestral heritage, also plays a significant role in your health!

Practical Tips for Incorporating Desh into Your Diet:
🍏Eat Local
🌽Seasonal Eating
🌍Understand Your Habitat

By paying attention to Desh, you can align your diet with nature's wisdom and enhance your overall health and well-being.

Did you know our bodies have 108 vital Marma points, each a gateway to prana (life energy)? 💫

These ancient Ayurvedic energy centers are essential for enhancing both physical and emotional well-being.

🔍 What are Marma Points? These points correspond to organs and emotions, helping regulate your body’s functions. They’re like meridian points in acupuncture - where gentle pressure can improve circulation, ease tension, and support healing.

✨ The Science: Modern studies show that Marma points have a higher concentration of nerve endings and electrical conductivity. Activating these points can stimulate your parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress and promoting deep relaxation.

💖 Therapeutic Benefits: Beyond physical healing, Marma therapy is a profound practice for emotional balance. Integrating it into your routine can bring powerful shifts to your body, mind, and spirit.

🌱 Why Explore Marma? Tapping into your body’s wisdom through Marma points can open doors to greater health, relaxation, and emotional harmony.

Want to bring more balance and healing into your life? Dive into Marma therapy!

Does Lifting Weights Cause You to Bulk? 🏋️‍♂️

Everyone Says "That's Impossible!"

🤔 Well... you might be Kapha in nature!

When it comes to strength training, your dosha plays a crucial role in how your body responds.

Here’s how lifting weights can impact each dosha:

🌿 Kapha Types: If you have a Kapha constitution, weightlifting can lead to increased bulk and a feeling of heaviness. Kapha is naturally grounded and tends to hold onto weight, making it essential to balance strength training with cardio and a lighter diet to avoid excess accumulation.

🔥 Pitta Types: On the flip side, Pittas often become lean and cut through weightlifting. Their fiery nature allows them to build muscle quickly while shedding fat, making strength training a great fit for maintaining their physique.

💨 Vata Types: Vatas may also gain muscle, but they need to put in more effort to sustain it. Due to their light and variable nature, consistent and balanced nutrition is crucial for Vatas to support muscle growth effectively.

Understanding your dosha can help tailor your fitness regimen for the best results!

Remember, it’s not just about lifting weights; it’s about lifting your understanding of your body! 💪✨

A Mountain-Inspired Ayurvedic Chili 🌶️

Inspired by the Ayurvedic principles of Kal and Desh (Time and Place) this recipe was developed when I was living in the mountains of Colorado 7000 ft. above sea level. My friends from the Southern Ute Indian Tribe introduced me to traditional food in the area when there were little to no vegetarian options growing in the winter.

Why Elk Meat? It is rich in saturated fats (provides essential energy and supports brain health) and it adapts to high-altitude living (helps combat the effects of altitude sickness).

Key Ayurvedic Principles 👇

🌿Stimulating Spices: Onion, garlic, cumin, and ginger aid digestion

🌿Warming Flavors: Garam masala and chili peppers enhance the dish's warming properties

🌿Balancing Tanginess: Lemon juice helps balance the rich flavors

Cooking Tip ➡️ Avoid cooling spices like mint, cardamom, and cinnamon, as they can hinder digestion.

🌱Ayurveda & Intermittent Fasting🌱

For over 5,000 years, Ayurveda has advocated for fasting as a powerful practice of Langhana - a method to lighten the body and detoxify.

Fasting serves both spiritual and physical purposes, allowing us to reconnect with our inner selves while promoting health.

🔄 For best results, Ayurveda recommends fasting during specific times: ideally between 6 AM - 10 AM or 6 PM - 10 PM into the evening. This aligns with the body’s natural rhythms for optimal digestion.

💚 A note for each dosha 💚

✨Kapha types should be cautious about fasting too long and avoid eating during Kapha times.

✨Pitta types need to watch their fasting duration, as it may increase inflammation.

✨Vata types, consistency is key! Whatever you choose, stay regular!

Embrace the wisdom of Ayurveda for a balanced approach to intermittent fasting! 🌞

Ginger: A Powerful Herb, But Use with Caution! ⚠️

Ginger is known for its many health benefits, but it's important to be mindful of its potential effects.

✨Digestive Fire: Ginger can stimulate digestion, which might not be ideal for those with ulcers or esophageal irritation.

✨Diuretic Effect: Excessive ginger consumption can increase urination.

Enjoy ginger in moderation and consult with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns.
