Peter Yucupico, vice chairman of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, has been named the recipient of the 2026 Lifetime Leadership Award by the Tribal Leadership Council (TLC).
According to TLC, the award recognizes Yucupico’s more than two decades of service to the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, including work connected to tribal sovereignty, intergovernmental partnerships, community leadership, and preservation of Yaqui culture and identity.
The honor will be presented during the 2026 Tribal Leadership Conference at Gila River Resorts & Casinos – Wild Horse Pass in Arizona. Tribal Leadership Council President Justin Barrett stated that the award series recognizes leaders advancing Native communities through long-term service and leadership across Indian Country.
For many Native communities, leadership is measured not only through politics or public visibility, but through years of service dedicated to protecting culture, strengthening sovereignty, and supporting future generations.
