Sergio Vega; Sunnyside High School (AZ)/Oklahoma State
Watching the Oklahoma State vs Nebraska dual meet from a week and a half ago, since I missed it when it came on. This Sergio Vega kid… Freshman at 141 lbs. In this meet, as most of you know, he pinned returning 3X NCAA AA/1X NCAA finalist, Brock Hardy with a cradle early in the match. It was the 2nd time they met this year with Vega winning 13-2 at the National Duals in November. Vega is now 7-0 and ranked 2nd in the nation behind 2X NCAA Champ out of Ohio State, Jesse Mendez. It will be interesting to see how that goes. Both guys are a lot of fun to watch. This is my favorite weight to follow this year by far.

In HS, Sergio was a 4X Arizona HS State Wrestling Champion for Sunnyside High School in Tucson, Arizona. He also won a Junior National title, a "Who's Number One" championship and a Super 32 championship in HS!! He finished with a career record of 140-2!
Sergio was also trained by his father, Dan Vega Sr. who is the vice president and coach of the Tucson Cyclones Wrestling and Fitness Club as well as his older brother, Danny Vega Jr. Dan Sr. was a 3X Arizona HS State Wrestling Champion for Sunnyside HS ‘94 himself. Danny Jr. won three state titles as well at Ironwood Ridge HS and wrestled collegiately for Iowa State and South Dakota State.
