☀️ This would be easier if I was skinny.
☀️ I wonder how many calories this burns.

Things I do say when we’re being active:

✨ Snuggle your love a few extra minutes in the morning even if it means you have to have a quick breakfast.

✨ Pick up Dairy Queen on the way home because you love watching the kids smile while they eat ice cream.

✨ Order pizza for dinner because you decided to stay outside playing with the kids instead of coming inside to cook.

✨ Eat regular low protein, high carb birthday cake because it tastes good.

✨ Order from the menu based on what sounds good because you haven’t seen your bestie in ages and want to enjoy the evening.

✨ Go through the drive thru on the way home because holy crap that was a rough day and you don’t have the mental energy to cook.

✨ Eat boxed mac and cheese without “healthy” modifications because it’s what you used to eat at Grandma’s house and you miss her like crazy.

Not everyone that gives up soda or candy or sweets has an ulterior motive, but some do. And if that is you, might I suggest spending this time before Easter looking at the grip diet culture has on you? And perhaps living a life focusing on trying to change your body isn’t the life God intended for you.

I am not exaggerating when I say my kids got a ridiculous amount candy this weekend. I am so sick of the amount of stuff we have that I could not bring myself to get them things for Valentine’s Day. So I got them all a bunch if candy. Valentine’s Day happens to be the day Arizona became a state in 1912. We had an Arizona birthday party with a piñata. Plus candy from both grandmas. Plus one kid brought home a bunch of candy from the Valentine exchange at school.
Here’s what I did…
I let them eat it. I’m pretty sure their diet Saturday was 85% candy. I still served regular meals and snacks, but I said nothing to limit the candy. I LET THEM LISTEN TO THEIR BODIES. And you know what happened? They didn’t ask for candy after eating a few pieces Sunday. In fact, all the candy is in the candy box now. No one has asked for it.
Restriction increases desire.

There are many sides of nutrition I am passionate about… not forcing kids to eat, eating foods you love, not dieting…and breastfeeding! Breastfeeding can be a tricky one because it often gets distorted and promoting breastfeeding can be seen as shaming formula. And that is zero percent what I’m about.

I’m just really over formula being thrown at moms who want to breastfeed and have a little bit of a struggle. Instead of being supported pediatricians, friends, family, social media, etc tell them to just switch to formula. If formula is what mom wants, fine. But if not, can we please stop? If mom wants to make breastfeeding work come hell or high water, then let’s get donor milk and an SNS and make it happen! All I really want is moms to be supported in how they want to feed their baby.

I get that not everyone wants to be cooking breakfast with a two year old attached to their b**b, but I want to help you get to whatever breastfeeding goal you have. That support can start in pregnancy so you go into the first feeds feeling confident.

There are obviously content issues with the MAHA commercial from Sunday, and I’ve seen a lot of people addressing those....

Not so fun fact: the woman he r*ped was my professor for an African American studies class in college. But it shouldn’t take knowing the victim to make you care.

It’s so hard for me to return to regular content, but regardless of *everything* going on, day to day life is still happening. And in that day to day life we still have struggles with feeding our kids. And I still want to be a support in those struggles. So here it is.

I share this breastfeeding info as a former lactation counselor with WIC. I have also breastfed four kids, each for at least two years. This is what I wish moms wanting to breastfeed knew:

🧡 colostrum is enough until your milk comes in.
🧡 empty breasts make more milk. The more milk you get out, the more you will make.
🧡 empty breasts require an efficient latch.
🧡 latch tips: hold your breast in the direction of your baby’s mouth (think of you you eat a hamburger). Get comfy and bring the baby to the breast.
🧡 pediatricians are not the best source of support for breastfeeding struggles.
🧡 know before you deliver what lactation consult options near you are.
🧡 you do not need a freezer full of pumped milk.
🧡 feeding your baby how you want is more important than other people’s comfort.
🧡 formal companies are predatory and have unethical marketing.
🧡 how you want to feed your baby is your decision and you should find providers that support that decision.
