πŸ’ͺ The Burnout Workbook talks about positive reappraisal for stressors you can't control, but I found the advice useful for reframing stressors you can control too.

πŸ’ͺ"Positive reappraisal" means that you recognize that whatever challenge your facing is worth facing. You acknowledge "...the effort, discomfort, frustration, unanticipated obstacles, and even repeated failures have value-not just because they are steps toward a worthwhile goal, but because you reframe difficulties as opportunities for growth and learning."

πŸ‘‰ It's easy to fall back into old habits, especially if that old habit is being mean to yourself. Slipping back into "you didn't get that job because you're not good enough" or "my friend didn't text me back because they don't actually like me" or "I'm ugly. I'm unlovable."

πŸ‘‰ You wouldn't say anything of the sort to a friend (and who hasn't forgotten that they'd read a text while otherwise engaged and then forgot to respond?) so stop saying those things to yourself! And no beating yourself up about it if you catch yourself either.

πŸ‘‰ Today's reminder is to identify one negative core belief and come up with ways to challenge it.

πŸ“’ Stress responses that go back to needing to run from predators or conserve energy in times of fewer resources include your heart beating faster, less responsive or aware to pain, tunnel vision, slower digestion and shifts in immune function.

πŸ“’ Each of these things have their uses but also rely on the threat ending, less you end up doing long term physical damage. Yes, stress actually IS bad for you!

🌼 It seems like we're often apologizing for our feelings because others might have it worse. And it's true! We are afforded a ton of things we might be grateful for *but* that doesn't mean you're not allowed to feel your feelings. If anything, negating or downplaying your feelings or experiences only does more harm than good.
