🍎🥦🥕 Last week on our Professional Learning Day all foodservice staff came together to experience an interactive food literacy session that included culinary and nutrition education. To see the excitement and fun they were having reaffirms that our department’s commitment and involvement in school garden programming is crucial in providing students access to healthy & nutritious foods through garden to cafeteria activities and nutrition education 🍎

Update on TUSD free meals and SNAP Benefits- There will not be any immediate impact to TUSD’s current free meals available to all students at TUSD schools. In regard to SNAP benefits for November that USDA has indicated will be paused on November 1 during the federal government shutdown, this will not impact availability of school meals. Free breakfast and lunch at all TUSD schools will continue to be available. TUSD Family Resource Centers and community partners such as the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona are resources that can be shared with families impacted by SNAP benefits being on hold.

: Our School Garden Network team harvested an amazing 81 pounds of pears from Gridley’s pear tree! These beautiful, sweet & crunchy pears will be offered during lunch on Friday, October 24th! Our dietetic interns will also offer samples and share fun facts about pears with the students. 🍎
