Warming socks or “magic socks”
Do you know about this amazingly beneficial, easy, affordable, and safe immune support you can do tonight and even if you’re traveling?
Going to bed with cold wet socks does sound a little strange especially if you aren’t feeling well but if you haven’t tried it, you should and let me know what you think!
There are a lot of viruses circulating the population right now as they do every winter. Because we tend to congregate indoors more in the winter months it provides a perfect environment to transmit these airborne viruses.
This age-old technique helps to increase your blood circulation. This helps to stimulate your immune system in your upper respiratory tract when the circulation to the lower part of your body is increased. This helps to draw fluids out of the head and neck to relieve congestion. It also promotes lymphatic flow and drainage which may also increase white blood cells. The white blood cells are the first responders to fight infections in the body.
It can be used to help support your immune response preventatively or you can use it when you are feeling under the weather. It can generally help relieve symptoms such as:
Cold & flu symptoms
Nasal congestion
Ear pain/ear congestion
Sore throat
Fever/chills
Headaches
Cough
Respiratory issues such as bronchitis
General immune support
The basics of the treatment:
1. Gather your supplies of a thin pair of cotton socks and a thick pair of wool socks (these work best but a thicker pair of cotton or polyester can work, too).
2. Warm your feet by soaking in warm water or just after a bath or shower. Then, dry them.
3. Wet the thin cotton socks with cold water and wring them out so there is no water dripping from them.
4. Place the cold wet socks on your feet and immediately place the thick wool socks over the top of them.
5. Go to bed. Your feet will begin to warm within a few minutes of getting into bed. Your feet work to warm and dry the socks.
6. When you wake up in the morning your socks will be “magically” dried.
**If your feet become chilled at any point take the socks off, warm the feet, and start again or try a different time.
7. Use for 3 consecutive nights for full benefit
This technique is generally safe for young and old. Ask your Naturopathic Doctor if you have chronic health conditions and/or compromised immune systems such as Diabetes, Raynaud’s phenomenon/syndrome, arterial insufficiency, intermittent claudication, etc as this treatment may not be appropriate for you.
