What is myopia?
Myopia — or nearsightedness — makes distant objects appear blurry while close-up vision remains clear. It happens when the eye grows too long or the cornea is too curved, causing light to focus in front of the retina. What causes it?
Myopia can develop at any age and is influenced by:
• Genetics
• Extended close-up work (screens, reading, computer use)
• Limited time outdoors
• Natural eye growth and aging
What you should know:
Myopia can progress over time, which may increase the risk of future eye issues if not monitored. Regular eye exams are the best way to catch these changes early and protect your long-term vision. How myopia can be managed:
• For clear vision: Prescription glasses or contact lenses are the most common way to correct for myopia.
• For slowing progression: For children and teens, we offer specialized myopia control treatments, including MiSight® contact lenses and low-dose atropine therapy.
• For everyone: Your optometrist can recommend the best, most personalized plan for you.
🧭 If you've noticed blurry distance vision, eye strain, headaches, or trouble seeing signs while driving, it may be time for an eye exam.
