In 2021, TMC partnered with Mothers' Milk Bank at Austin to become a donor milk depot, providing families a place to donate milk locally. Over the last four years, our donor milk depot has received more than 100,000 ounces of lifesaving donor milk. This translates to over 780 gallons of milk, providing over 200,000 meals to premature infants around the country! This milk is collected and shipped to the Mothers' Milk Bank at Austin, eventually reaching premature and fragile babies across the U.S.

As we celebrate National Breastfeeding Month, we would like to send our thanks to all of the families who donate to help babies thrive! Your generosity has literally helped save lives.

Do you have more milk than your baby needs? To learn more about milk donation, call TMC Lactation Services at 520-324-5730 or reach out directly to the Mothers' Milk Bank at Austin. Share the gift of nourishment with a baby who needs it most.

Cupcakes and bras—TMC's amazing lactation team is finding special ways to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week. The team shared delicious cupcakes at the Women's and Children's Division and they're even hosting a bra decorating contest!

"This team is truly exceptional. They are the largest and most enduring team in Southern Arizona, providing the best evidence-based care for our moms and babies. They are also passionate about education and highly engaged with the community offering breastfeeding classes, outpatient care for moms after they discharge, and coordinating a breast milk donor depot." - Betsy Harden, RNC, NIDCAP, NTMC, Manager Patient Care Services, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Can you spot the difference? Counterfeit car seats are becoming more of a concern. We are finding at least one a week comes through TMC. These seats do not meet US safety standards, and using one can put your child at serious risk and not to mention, land you a ticket or a fine.

The counterfeit car seat shown here was found at TMC and the family was kind enough to allow us to use it for safety education. If you have any car seat related questions, please call TMC's Community Outreach Team at 520-324-4475.

Let's keep our little ones safe while they snooze! Don't forget your ABCs of Safe Sleep:

Alone: your baby should be alone in their sleep space. No people, pillows, blankets, bumper pads or toys. Just a fitted sheet and a firm mattress. Sharing a room is great! Sharing a sleep surface is not. Babies can be put to sleep swaddled until they are 8 weeks old.

On their Backs: this position is the safest, always place your baby for every nap and sleep on their back. Once babies can roll on their own, they can sleep in that position. But always start them on their backs.

In a safe Crib: babies should always sleep in a safety approved crib, bassinet, or portable play yard with a firm, flat mattress. No couches, swings, adult beds or inclined sleepers. No blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, teethers or toys. These all-increase babies' risk for suffocation.
